OK, you convinced me!

Many times on IRV2 I have heard folks make suggestions about spraying something on the water spigot to sanitize it before hooking up a freshwater hose. Well, today I saw a guy across the road go to the empty site next to theirs and hold his sewer hose over the spigot to wash it out!

I thought about telling him how gross that was, but he was bigger than me! Anyway, this afternoon we will be buying a spray bottle and fill it with hydrogen peroxide to spray the spigots before we hook up!

I started sanitizing spigots after I saw squirrels licking one to get a little drink. Your example is just gross, gross, gross. I may never be able to get that picture out of my head....thanks. :-)

Guess he thought as long as he wasn't using his own water spigot it was OK.

Daughter in law recently sent me pictures of the guy in front of them at the dump station who shoved his water hose down the sewer hose then proceeded to fill his water tank with the same hose all connected to the spigot marked not potable water. Stupid is as Stupid does.

White vinegar is an excellent disinfectant. A nurse told me that in the old days it was used to sterilize surgical instruments.

That Joe is something so stupid, someone that has no consideration for others. You did bring up a good point that will have many thinking. Thanks for posting.

I always spray with lysol. Sometimes I wondered if I was wasting my time but you have certainly convinced me it is worth the effort.

So disgusting! You just have to wonder what is wrong with some people!

I'm also convinced. Now let me get this straight. You are talking about sanitizing the sewer hose so you can use the water hose to flush it ....right?

I read where someone was using a small portable torch to heat the spigot and kill the nastiest. That worked until he came across a plastic faucet

That is truly nasty!
But you all realize that the crews that work on your city water lines are often the same crews that work on your city sewer lines. I've never seen them sanitize a backhoe bucket or a pipe wrench. LOL

That said, the chlorine in the water does a good job (if it's not a well), and so does the UV in sunlight (on the spigot).
Honestly, I'd be much more concerned about what I pick up from a doorknob at Crackerbarrel.
