Also remember that even if nobody gets hurt there is always some damage to your coach when a tire blows.

My tires GoodYear GS670RV gave me a blowout at five years. The cost of having a tire truck come out and put on my spare was $200 and 6 hours of waiting. I also had to replace both metal mud flap holders (in front of and behind the tire), a wheel skirt brace and have the propane system checked for leaks as the tire when it blew wrapped the rear steel portion of the mudflap under the propane tank. If I didn't have a spare that would have cost an extra $600 for the replacement tire. If my tires were 10 years old I probably would have lost the inner dual and possibly one or both of the rims and had extra collateral damage as well.

That could come to:

$200 to $400 Remove and remount wheel(s) on axel hub at roadside rates.
$1,200 Two tires mounted at roadside rates.
$200 to $400 Replacement rims.
$400 to $2,000 Body damage.

Total - $2,000 to $4,000.

Aside from the cost is the potential of loosing several hours to several days of your trip while waiting for parts/repairs.

There could also be added the cost of having a flatbed come out to get you off the roadway along with the cost of the additional damages from getting the rig on and off the flatbed.

This is again all assuming that there was no loss of control and subsequent loss of life.

After a blowout, even with minimal or no additional grief, your wife will be nervous about every sound, creak, groan and ripple in the road for some time to come.

Unless that tire store de-mounted each tire and visually inspected it inside/outside for any defects they cannot asertain their condition, it's just an EWAG.(estimated wild a** guess!)

It's really scary how many tire "experts" don't know squat about tires!

Even many of the tire manufacturers are now saying that tires should be replaced after 6 years even on an automobile...that's even more true of an RV which usually sits in one place more than it is driven.
