No, no tickets or anything else that would negatively affect our rates. That's why I'm so baffled. The only thing different is that we sold our house and are renting a house.

Insurance companies are allowed to use your credit report to set your rates in some states. Any changes to your credit?

Check your FICO score. A change in your status from home owner to renter may have affected that. For some reason insurance companies are allowed to use credit scores in considering your premiums.

You definitely need to shop around. We were with Liberty Mutual for 40 years and when we Joined AARP went to the Hartford and save over $2,000.00. Then earlier this year Liberty Mutual called us and asked to quote our business. Saved me $600.00 over The Hartford. There is a battle going on in the insurance industry and the consumer is reaping the benefits.

AARP was not helpful to us. We had to pay tow fees up front, which was not cheap. We have had AAA Road service for years, went to the agent and let him do all of the research. Bundled us with carriers that gave us the best deal. (House, cars, Class A and boat) Someone said talk to your agent first (if you haven't) then consider going to a AAA office to see what they can do for you.

Had GMAC had one claim. Paid for MH damage right away. Rates did go up thow.
Now they became National General and now GS.

Looking at Progressive.

We all want good rates. But also a carrier that takes care of claims quickly and not sticking it to us afterwards.

Do get what we pay for in service?

It can be because you moved.

You need to comparison shop the reputable companies. Price depends on your driving record, location class, and each level of coverage.

I am in Rural Route Class 1. It is the lowest location cost in PA. If I lived in Philladelpia the over-all rate would triple.

Each insurer has rates that vary by state, or even by county.

Make sure the quotes are one-on-one for all coverage levels. Some like to provide lower pricing via lower coverage.

So, no simple answers. You must shop. Brokers may help.

That's the answer....you moved to a different zip code.

Last month our grandaughter's car insurance went up $200 a year when she moved from our house into an apartment about 5 miles from us.

She called the insurance company and they raised it based on the zip code.

The other thing is that you no longer have a mortgage. That will affect your FICO score as well.

When I paid off my mortgage in 06 and sold the house and went fulltime in 12, my rates did not change at all. I did get a discount for becoming a "senior "!
And, yes, they know I am fulltime.

I have ITT Hartford throughout ARRP for a lot of years no rate increases. I have monitored my insurance by checking with companies, ITT has always had the best rates for me. I do have my MH and three other vehicles with them.

Try Good Sam. We have it and pay a very reasonable premium vs Geico Hartford Farmers. Shop around. You should do that once a year when you get the bill. You don't owe them anything. It's up to you to shop for the best price.
