Onan genset

My Onan 7500 diesel generator will not crank. When pushing the start switch the starter makes a spinning sound but does not crank. I recently replaced the fuel lines and since I have not been able to start it. Yes, I did prime. Jesse

A whining sound from the starter motor but no cranking indicates the Bendix gear in the starter has failed. That's a spring actuated gear that connects the starter motor to the engine flywheel to do the cranking. The motor spins but it's not turning the flywheel.

If that's it, you are almost surely going to need a new starter motor for the genset. The starter is probably repairable, but I don't think Onan makes the individual parts available for sale. If you could identify the manufacturer of the starter motor, though, you might find parts for it. Or take it to a motor repair shop and see what they can do,

You might just check the 3 fuses that are in the front cover above the starter switch, mine has a label about the fuses there. I think one of the fuses is for the starting function. You have to take a small cover off to access the fuses.
