On the HDMI to composite issue. There used to be systems capable of HDMI input and HD composite output. The movie industry had laws passed in the European Union that outlawed this based on piracy concerns. Then the standards body updated the HDMI standard that removed that capability by forcing an encryption routine into the HDMI signal. The electronics manufacturer is only following the law and the standards. I know it does not make it easier for you to install the new bluray player but figured I could give a little background.

Mike

PS It has been a few years since I fell into this trap trying to get a projector to display bluray disk movies. So my details might be off ie the encryption could have been added before the EU law. But none the less the outcome is the same. Also at that time there were still some devices being sold on ebay that could do the conversion. Today I could not find any.
