Opinion Needed - Cooper M147 Tires

Anyone have Cooper Hercules M147 Steer tires on your coach?

Anyone have any opinion? If you have them, how do they handle? How is the ride? Any problems?

Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

I haven't used that particular model, but I used to run Hercules tires on my 10 wheelers, and never had a problem with them, my dealer switched to carring Cooper Roadmaster a few years ago, and that is what I have been running know, just because the dealer switched, and I think if I remember correctly, it was an availability thing was the reason they switched.

Thanks Frank.

How did/do you find the ride? Is it smooth? Any road noise?

The Cooper M147 is a new tire for the brand. I'm told it is actually made in Japan and Japanese rubber is said to be superior to the rubber used in North America. Don't mistake for China tires. They are known for less stringent guidelines in the production process.

It's tough to pass up an $840 savings on 6 tires between them and Toyo's. I'm just trying to justify the savings but don't want to sacrifice a better or quieter ride for money alone. Once bought, it's tough to spend again. I don't want to make a mistake.

The basis of ride softness is sidewall stiffness and the amount of pressure the tire needs to carry the load. More pressure yields a stiffer ride.

Noise is basically from tread design and the type of rubber compound used. Harder rubber gives longer mileage but typically a bit noisier as well.

If the Cooper claims about the same tread wear as the Toyo and looks similar in tread design, it will probably be about the same noise level. If it is the same size, you can check the load inflation tables to verify but it probably uses about the same psi as the Toyo, so likely to be similar in ride.

All this is generalities, though. "Your mileage may vary".

without having that exact tire model, it is hard to say about noise and ride. also different vehicles give different feelings, so I don't have an exact answer for you, but for $840, a little bit of noise and harder ride is a lot easier to stomach.

I made an error in providing info. The Cooper tire is actually a Hercules. Owned by Cooper. Tire is made in China. The Hercules tire is Premium Steer Tire. Model is H802 with size 295/75R22.5. The other tire I am looking at is actually the Toyo Steer Tire, model M147 with size 295/75R22.5. Hercules H802 is $300 and Toyo M147 is $440. 6x$140=$840.
