Ordering U.S. National Parks Pass

Hi,

I registered on the USGS site so that I could order the National Parks Pass online. The system lets me change the country to Canada and I can enter in all of the appropriate information ... so far so good, until I see a comment at the end of the order page that states "Currently only customers in the United States may submit orders electronically."

Has anyone, outside of the U.S. successfully ordered a pass using the online system? Why would the USGS site allow me to enter in all of the relevant information and then direct me to a separate page that is for a PDF form. And, that page can't even find the form! I am thinking, now, I'm better off buying the pass when I arrive at the first National Park I intend to visit.

Anyone from Canada ordered online?

Thanks,

Steve

Not in Canada, sorry. Bought it in person a few years ago. Bet it has to to with postage and the Zip Code field in the programming.

I got mine at a Forrest Service office.

Unless there is a great advantage to buying on line you could just plan on getting one when you travel, you should be able to buy at any of the national parks. Since it is an annual pass it lasts a full 365 days so it may be beneficial to wait.

Remember if you are over 65 you can get a "forever pass"

Also, the senior pass age requirement is 65 and must be a US citizen per their web site.

It is actually age 62, but you are correct in that you must be a US citizen.

IMHO, there is only a problem with buying them at a park if you stay at at a campground that provides a discount for having the card prior to getting to a park. You would not get the discount. Other than that, buying at a park is the most convenient.

Here's a list of places to purchase: https://store.usgs.gov/pass/PassIssuanceList.pdf

Most places I have seen around here you can get to without paying an entrance fee or camping fee first. My guess is you could just explain you were going in to get a pass right then if that wasn't the case. I did have to show my drivers license showing I was a U.S. resident when I got mine at 62.

Only 1 person needs the pass if you are both in the car together. My wife and I bought 2 passes because I might stay at the campground and she might go to a store, or go to a park while I'm off backpacking somewhere.

The pass must be signed and must match the signature on the driver's license.
