OT 1993 Jeep blower question

We have a 1993 Jeep Cherokee with about 440k miles on it in need of some work.

The ac blower only works on high so we are suspect of tge fan resistor block but the haynes manual does not state where it is.

It usually is mounted in the air handler someplace but we cannot see it in the easy places.

So before we tear it apart looking we ask if anyone has worked on one and can indicate where it is.

Thanks in advance!

Try your question on a jeep web site. Jeepsters are as helpful as the fine people on this web site.

OT 1993 Jeep blower question

Straight 6 engine? There is a vacuum hose located driver side, just under the throttle body that can come loose / pop off. It will cause high speed fan only and cruise control inoperative. Happened to me on my 05' Rubi TJ. I think also applicable to your Jeep.

If not, likely the resistor pack for the fan.

Might also check/ask on Jeep Forums. Jeepsunlimited is one. Lots of tribal knowledge there.

I will need to check that.

Cruise does not operate but air motors do so was not thinking of a vacuum issue.

given age and miles was just assuming broken or poor connection.

Thought we checked vacuum at cruise servo but we have eaten since then...

Assuming resistor pack behind dash in air handler but not wanting to do exploratory sugary just yet.

The resistor block should be pretty easy to find. Look at the HVAC box on the passenger's foot well. It may even be behind the glove box.

My bad, my problem and this vacuum line fix are if the problem is that HVAC only blows to defroster no matter what is selected, and would not be applicable to your Jeep.

Wow! 440,000 miles and all you need is the blower motor to work? Amazing. My fix would be to lift up the wiper blades and drive a new one underneath, ha ha. Hope you get it fixed.

Try looking behind the glove box. The resistor block should be right behind there

That is what I am assuming...

But sometimes in other places and was just checking before tearing into it.

Yup...lots of miles.

We picked it up from salvation army in 2003 or so and it had 425 k or so then.

It had a note inside stating engine replaced somewhere around 200 k...cannot remember exact.

Had to change the starter switch at bottom of column and bypas the park interlock switch as it is bad and not easy to get to...common issue with these.

We use the oil formulated for old engines and it does not use any so there must be the correct kind of snakes used to make that stuff.

Look at the bottom of the HVAC box under the glove box. There should be two sheet metal screws with a head size of 5/16". Unplug the resistor, unscrew the two screws and you will have it in your hand. They are quite easy to replace.

under the glove box area... theres a big black box that houses the blower motor and such. you'll see a small bolt and an access door, unbolt it and pop it off. itll be right there.
Here is another step by step set of instructions:
Quote:
1. Disconnect negative battery terminal. My OEM radio did not lose it's station presets.

2. Remove passenger side door. Crawling around is just so much easier with the door removed and not banging on your legs. (OPTIONAL)

3. Remove glove box door.

4. Remove the screw attaching the under dash light on the passenger side (if you have a light there). Move the light out of the way. No need to unplug it.

5. Looking through the glove box opening, there is a large GREEN connector.
Unplug it and remove the bottom half from the heater box. Pull the bottom half down and out the bottom of the dash.

6. Now you can see and access the right side screw holding the resistor in.

7. Remove the two (8mm/5/16" wrench, same size) resistor screws. The left one from under the dash and the right one through the glove box opening.

8. Pull the resistor out of the heater box.

9. Unlock (the red thingy) the harness connector on the resistor and remove the resistor from the harness. Credit goes to an earlier poster for this excellent tip.

10. Plug in the new resistor and lock (the red thingy) the connector.

11. Assemble in reverse order.
