overnite wal mart, home depot

made reservations in jan. at sandylake rv park ,Carrolton tx. for one nite .june 29th. seems as though with all the water they are not open and have moved all rvs to some other parking lot. called the vineyards campground in grapevine tx, recording says closed till labor day due to flooding. Picking up grandkids for a trip north, otherwise keep on trucking! called various wal mart and home depot stores about overnighting in parking lots in and around Carrolton tx, same message: we are sorry but company and or city regs. do not allow it. can overnight in front of son's house, but that's not the point. have heard for many years rvs were welcome overnight in these companies' lots. what's up?

The company policy is to allow it, but there may be local laws and ordinances that are against it, plus some leave it up to the store management. That's one of the reasons for checking with the store before planning on stopping. In our limited travels we've only found a few that were off limits. The last one said they really didn't allow it bout if I bought something then it was OK. So I did and everyone was happy.

A lot of communities are banning overnite RV parking for a variety of reasons. Many believe it is due to collusion between RV Parks and the powers that be. The City I live in has banned overnite parking and there are no RV Parks here. The Police Department told me that they asked for the ban in so they can move "unsavory" people along if necessary. The big parking lots are posted no parking but it doesn't seem to be enforced. The local WalMart manager advises people that they may be asked by the Police to move along.

As stated above, WalMart allows RVers but city ordinances, quite often, do not. You'll find this problem mostly in medium to large cities.

I would either park in front of your son's home for the one night or perhaps this RV park would suit you:

I have stayed at Wal Marts many times and most of the time we are welcomed. However local ordinances prohibit them in some areas. You can get around this by calling ahead and see what restrictions they may have. You just have to move on to another city that doesn't restrict your stays.

Casinos?

Are there any casinos in the area you will be traveling. Neighbor of ours say they almost always have good luck in overnight parking at casinos.

That's what we did in Redding, used to stop at the WM on the way to AZ, then found the city had banned it so went about 20 miles south and stayed there for the night so they got our business as well as a close by restaurant.

Shady Creek Campground in Aubery TX just west of Frisco TX is a very nice place. We stayed there for two weeks in April and it was a nice place to stay. Not Carrolton but really not that far in the scheme of things for Texas.

We use Harvest Host and RV Golf Club.

There are no parking issues.

Check out the Walmart in Irving Tx. I have stayed over night there and the Sam's across the street.

You should also try Lowe's as they have a company policy supporting overnight parking. I agree with what others have stated that local ordinances will override any company policy as will local management decisions.

The AllStays app is your friend.
Shows all the RV friendly WM icons in green, those that don't allow overnite parking are in red.

We've overnited at WM all across the U.S.A.
Never asked if we could, never been asked to leave.
