PA Tunnel Restrictions LP?

Hi Guys:

Ok dumb question. Are we restricted from ALL tunnels because we carry a LP Tank? I live in PA and was just on Penn DOT site, could not find tunnel restrictions.

My LP tank is 40 gal. Is it a size law or any LP tank can not go through a tunnel?

Regards... Jim P.

I just traveled through the PA Turnpike tunnels in western PA with no problems.

The bigger tunnels almost universally will restrict use.
They also almost universally will tell you so well in advance of where you will need to adjust your route to find a bridge instead.

The smaller and shorter tunnels almost universally don't have any restrictions.

I live in PA and don't know of any tunnel restrictions. Traveled through the ones on the Turnpike myself.

The PA Turnpike restricts the transport of bulk LP (tank truck) through the tunnels. Small quantities such as carried by RVs are OK.

PA does not have restrictions on RV's, but Maryland does. You cannot go through the tunnels on I 95 in Baltimore.

I've been told that the only tunnels that restrict RV propane are
the two in Baltimore, I-95 and I-895. I've been thru the PA tunnel
between Breezewood and Pittsburgh, as well as the Chesapeake
Bridge Tunnel complex into Norfolk, there are no restrictions other
than your tanks should be turned off.

You must use truck bypass around Baltimore even if you have if you have a brand new unused tank filled with nitrogen. No propane tanks mean no propane tanks.

Hi guys..

Thanks..... Glad PA is good to go. I did drive through the Bay tunnel when I picked yp my coach in March 2010 from Virginia. I didn't know any better. Lucky I didn't get caught, but didn't know.

Regards.. jim P.
