Last time i was there the sand is clean and normal texture. If you are brave you can camp on the beach.

I was in Port Aransas last summer, non camper. There were a lot of people camping on the beach. It's not my cup of tea, but I would say that it meets the beach criteria. i think South Padre may be a little better.

Blue water is east of the Mississippi. Brown water is west of the Mississippi.

Ken shared some nice pictures! We have visited there too and found the beaches were quite nice. It's not the fine white sands of places like the gulf-side of Florida, but it's certainly a huge improvement over my local Galveston, TX beaches.

Just spent 3 weeks in Rockport - we stayed at Drifters. Nice park - may be blocked from satellite by oak tress but a fair number of stations on park cable if you have time for television. Weather was off and on with rain and cool - but largely awesome.

A few pics of the beach at Port Aransas - and around Rockport - Fulton - RVs on water are at Goose Island near the "Big Tree". Port pics are Fulton.. the beach was nice - the sand was clean and looked good - it is Texas gulf sand however - not California or Florida sand (doh).

Here's. Picture of the sand from sand fest this year down the beach from On The Beach RV. We have not stayed at that park, but did drive thru it. It's a cute little park right next to the beach entrance. You can walk to the beach, or just about anywhere in town. If you want to rent a golf cart we like Bron's(think that's the spelling)

...A word of caution... be sure to wash off the salty film after staying this close to the water! And don't forget the undercarriage and wheel rims...

If you go to their website and read the home page, about 2/3rds down you will find this, and I quote:

"Even the sand is excellent here, Sandfest has become THE largest Master Sand Sculpting Competition in the US!!!!"

so, I'd say, the sand must be okay - plus there are many pictures of the area and the campground. The place looks interesting to me.

Tim

on edit: Oh, yeah...We stayed in Corpus Christi (just across the bay from Port Aransas) at this RV park a few years back and found the area, beach, water and all to be very nice! Just up the beach from The Grey Ghost, the U.S. Lexington...

Hey Flagship--what's the name of the RV park where you can park right on the beach--in your photo?

I'm pretty sure he wasn't talking about an RV park where you park right on the beach. You just can literally pull onto the beach and stay for free. At least that's what I remember. That's also why he said, " If you're brave "

edit; looks like I might have combined two different post. You can stay right on the beach in corpus but I don't think that's what you were asking about. Sorry.
