PEX fittings are made to work with PEX tubing. PEX tubing and garden variety hoses are different thickness and rigidity. Why no just use a hose repair coupler?

I've used shark bites to repair PEX tubing in my coach. I was skeptical, but after three years it's still leak free. It still seems too easy.

Well I am not clear what kind of material you are referring to that is in your RV. Most RV's that I have seen new and many older are built with PEX tubing.

The size of the tube is printed on the outside. See if you can locate that and just buy the same size fittings...there is no need to measure anything.

Or. just cut a short piece off of where you are trying to connect to and take it with you to Lowes or Home depot. This is the "idiot proof" way to do it.

Shark bites are great I have used many and never had one fail. They go on easily and can be removed. Just get Shark Bites and make your life simple.

Check this site for specs. on the PEX tubing. If the tubing you are working on is not one of these sizes it may not be PEX. You mentioned 1" OD but there is not an actual 1" OD PEX tube. Either .875 OD for 3/4" PEX or 1-1/8" OD for 1" PEX.

SharkBites are great for emergency repairs and to have a few (especially splice ones) in the RV tool box.

If you are doing 3+ number of fittings (swapping from PVC to PEX if the PVC is old and brittle), then you want to invest in PEX clamp pliers and the much less expensive PEX fittings / clamps.

I think what we are all missing in the OP's original post was that he's trying to repair his water supply hose which as we all know is NOT PEX at all.

In that case, go to your local Ace or Home Depot store and ask for a garden hose splice. These hoses are typically 1/2" ID or 5/8" ID.

It's funny how so many folks responded without actually reading the original question. That happens a lot around here.

I'm asking for a moderator to close this post.
The reason for trying to save these water hoses is the quality of the hose. It's the hose ends that need replacement. These hoses Don't kink buckle or become deformed. They are 30 years old.
