Phone/Text while Driving

As many of you know, Florida now has a law against phone usage or texting while driving unless it is hands free. Witnessed another huge motorhome pulling a large SUV the other morning and the driver was texting! Doing it in a car is bad enough but this is what gives RVers a bad reputation. Please get the word out to all. A 20 ton motorhome will not stop when it rear ends a POV.

There should be a federal law against texting while driving! No telling how many lives could be saved........

Even hands-free phone calls should be banned. You are concentrating on the conversation; not driving.

Two people sitting in a vehicle talking isn't like hands-free with someone miles from you. You have double eyes to see highway issues and you can both stop talking when you do see something that needs more attention.

I just had a gal in the car behind me today talking and she was so animated with her hands and head. I came to the stop sign and she stopped inches from me by going too fast and not paying attention.

How do you know he was texting and not using his phone as a GPS? I always use my Bluetooth for talking and use a stand alone GPS? I never use my phone as a GPS, itís too much like texting.

Pass all the laws you want. If they're not enforced they're worthless. How many years has Florida had a seatbelt law for kids? Today I came to a stoplight next to a ratty small sized pickup with 2 sub 10 year old girls in the passenger seat; one sitting in the lap of the other and no seatbelts in use.

And no one is getting murdered because it's also against the law. It's only a crime if you get caught, lol.

+1 on that. More legislation is not the answer. Most of not all of these kinds of violations can already be cited under existing law. Just need stronger enforcement and stiffer penalties.

I've seen way too many people who think that the car is a mobile phone booth! Car manufacturers need to disable a driver's phone while driving PERIOD! I have been hit in my car 3 times from people taking on the phone. And usually they have minimal insurance. Big deal! I get 2/3 of $15K for a lifetime of suffering! DISABLE the driver's phone while driving,

If you ban texting or talking on phone, then you might want to ban driving while eating, and close all the drive through windows. You will then need to ban the use of radios, scolding the kids in the back seat, no more hot cups of coffee while driving. No more driving while sleepy. While we’re at ban cruise control. Lots of accidents occur when a vehicle is on cruise and the driver falls asleep.

How many laws beyond driving while distracted do we need? We have laws against driving under the influence, a law against driving with an open container of beer, but don’t seem to need a law about drinking then driving. If we did all the bars and restaurants would have to close. Why do we allow convenience stores to sell ice cold beer in singles? Anyone believe for a moment the beer will make it home?

We have enough laws. We can’t begin to enforce the ones already on the books until after an event. You can’t legislate common sense.

With all respect to law enforcement officers, they cannot protect anyone from a crime, they are there to enforce laws-after the crime is committed.

The other day a young lady veered into my lane while I was along side her on a 4 lane road (she was on the phone). I hit the brakes on my motorcycle but it was close. At the next light, I pulled up to her car side and she rolled down the window and said she was sorry (she was still on the phone).

Made me laugh when you said she apologized but was still on the phone. I think I would have said something not nice.

Did you explain to her about not talking on the phone while driving?
