Be carefull of calls offering something that needs immediate attention. I got a cell phone call this afternoon about lowering my interest rate (on what I don't know) but I needed to press 1. At that point I hung up. About an hour later I called the number to have them remove my number for their calling list. I got a message that the number was no longer in service or disconnected. It's amazing how quick they change numbers or else they put the message on. Since it is no longer in service, I guess there's no harm in posting the number. 407-207-0820

The tech savy posters here could probably give you a more exact answer, but I think that with the proper equipment the telemarketers can camoflage their true number with another. I have received a number of calls that show up on caller ID as 000 000-0000

Guys be careful calling these numbers back - or pressing 1 to lower your interest rates - these calls can cost you a huge amount of money as the number is a PREMIUM RATE number.

This is a huge scam in the UK on Private lines and Cell phones. The call charges can be as much as £20 per minute ($40) and they are always recorded messages.

I'm the admin for the phone system at my company. I can make any phone under my control show any number or caller id I want. So knowing this, don't beleive the caller id or calling number you see. Simply don't answer it.

On a side note, I got one of these calls at home. I asked the lady what my current rate was, as she claimed she could beat it by percent. She didn't know what rates I was paying. So I asked her how she could make such claims without knowing and it seems that she really lying when she says that. She hung up of course. Another thing I like to do is ask them for thier home number. If they can call me at home I think is should be able to call them at home during thier supper time. Also ask them how to get alot of blood out of carpet. I mean alot. Like a gallon or two. They freak out on that one.

Charliez,I like playing with them too.Like when a salesman was trying to sell me kitchen cabinets and I pretended I had som popcorn stuck in my throat,I told him to hang on its almost out. When you get a new person doing her spiel, interupt her 1/2 way through and she will go back to the begining of her script,do it a couple times.I used to have sympathy for these people, just trying to make a living blah blah blah. After enough of these calls during dinner you get very cold blooded.

I try to make them think that they've got a live one, then spit out the hook.

comments like - really, wow - that sounds awesome. How can you guys do that, why isn't everyone signing up.

then they say - so I can sign you up then, I reply - nope, and hang up.

or if you get a call waiting alert - switch over and never go back.

Hand the phone to a chatty 3 yr old.

no speechy henglais

The trick that I use with these people is that I ask them if they can hold on just a minute, then I lay the phone down. I come back in 5+ minutes and hang up. If you're on a limited cell phone plan, this may not work. I figure that if they can waste my time, I can certainly waste theirs. Lol!

I get calls like these all the time, despite being on the National Do Not Call List. Tried using various reverse telephone lookups, but find most to be useless or otherwise linked to some type of paid search service. A more effective way I've found is just by doing a Google search. Just leave out the "-" between the numbers.

Also, there are various websites that allow users to post/comment about telemarketers or scam artists. One of my favorites is 800notes.com This is what the site reports on 407-207-0820 !

With going on 30 pages of internet posts about that & similar numbers, I'm surprised the scumbag (wait, what's lower than scumbag...subscum scumbag?) is still trying to run the scam.

So much for being on the DO NOT CALL lists!
