Poop police

Wow I never expected this level of interaction when I started the post. I am happy we have so many responsible and grumpy members.

I do want to add nu two cents about the real lease. We use them but I don't think it has ever gotten to the end. Most of the time it is locked all the way i giving my dog about two feet. When I let her run I lock it about 5 to 6 feet. She know the sound of the click when I lock it and is well trained.

So I use the unpopular real but I understand the frustration with how others abuse it. Last trip more than one I had my dog at my hip with the real all the way in as I do when approaching another dog or passing a campsite etc. But several times the other dog was allowed to run the length of the leash. Even running into traffic. I guess they don't want to keep their dog long.

I don't have a problem ...one... telling lazy folks to pick up the poop. I do and so can they.

As for the reel type leashes, you have to use them as intended. When in close quarters or approaching people or other dogs, the leash is shortened and locked.

My own prejudices are showing, but these owners only control their dogs because they (believe) they can overpower the dog's strength. This may be true of teeny tiny yappers, but these owners are the same ones you see leaning back with arm outstretched and the (medium size) dog straining ahead, head down and the leash taut. The owner is NOT in control.

Any dog is capable of being taught to walk happily at heel, content to be with his pack leader and not make a misery and a trial out of walking time.

I just get the sneaking suspicion that these reel-leash types not only don't discipline the dog on walks, but fail to discipline the dog in any way. Maybe can't, maybe won't.

I have no confidence that these owners can keep Fifi's teeth out of my calf, or keep Fifi from dashing under the wheels of my car.

Full disclosure; currently full-timing with a 130# 2 y/o female St. Bernard. No un-picked-up poop, no reel-type leash

I noticed when camped at a state beach, the designated area for dogs to do their business appeared to be the sandy strip that surrounded the lot where all the MHs were parked. Several areas appeared to be quite popular, and if you lucky enough or unsuspecting enough and parked by those areas, there was a lovely aroma of urine in the air. (Yes I'm being sarcastic)

The only time I had a problem was at the Casino campground in Bay St Louis Miss. The older couple next to us on of those little foo foo dogs folks carry around. They would get all dressed up each night to go to the casino. They let this so called dog out the front door and it would do its business where ever. Now it didn't make a big mess but it irked me that they just didn't care. Told the manager, turned out they were "whales", The manager couldn't(wouldn't) say anything. Next morning I piked up theirs and maybe a little of Zeus' and deposited on their front step. Problem solved

I confront them immediately and if they dont like it they will find it on the first step of their RV. Once at the house one lady would not heed my advice to pick up her dog poop and after the third time, and i had a sign in the yard That SAID: dont let your dog poop in my yard! Well i got up about 5 in the morning just to make sure it was the same person and sure enough it happened again, same person. I let her go without saying anything, gave her time to get back to her house, and i then got it in a baggie took it to her house and smeared it on her windshield. No more dog poop in yard! She does not even come my way anymore. Kinda drastic i know, but enough is enough. Duk

At a campground last month, while sitting outside enjoying myself, with our dog I was joined several times by other peoples dogs just running loose. I don't think people pick up after their dogs if they are not on a leash.

Things are not always what they seem. While walking the dog, she did her thing. I opened the handle and the little blue bags were all used up.
I had to leave the pile there and immediatly went back to the motorhome and got a new bunch. The pile was of course still there and I picked it up. If someone saw me out of bags they might have thought I would have left it there but I picked it up as soon as I got my new supply of bags in about three minutes.

Oh and Yes I use one if those long leash things. If I see a person or another dog, I real it in and the dog will heal or sit next to my left leg.
It is easy to see when other people or dogs are around and control your dog.

I go out in the motor home to relax and enjoy. If someone doesn't pick up after their dog near my sight, I pick it up and dispose of it for them. You just can not fix stupid.

Putting it in the drivers side door handle works great, don't ask how I know

Lots of great ideas. I too have reached for the poop bag to find that the one of the kids must have used the last one. Yes I train my children the responsibility of cleaning up aft our pet.

I thnk it is apparent when someone has a dispenser on the leash and just ran out.

Last time I got from the motorhome to the gate of a dog friendly blue gass festival when I realized the bag holdernwas empty. Our dog Cocoa got half way back and decided it was time. I was able to coax her to run and almost made it back. Marked it with a beer can and returned promptly to retrieve the sculpture.

Hey, sh---- er --- stuff happens. I don't really think there would be too many people so hostile they'd make a big deal about running out of bags as long as the owner came immediately back and retrieved it.

And as long as it wasn't where I could step in it or where it was. Bags or not, that's a no-no.

NO! Not the beer can! I'd probably leave my watch instead.
