Portable charcoal grill?
We have been looking for a good quality tabletop portable charcoal grill and it seems there's not much out there to choose from. I don't think our requirements were that unusual.
1. Made to sit on table
2. Must have folding legs
3. As shallow as possible when folded for storage
4. Well constructed for years of use
5. Grate sized for maybe 4 to 6 burgers
Now that don't seem too tough, does it? WRONG! I have searched the internet and the only one I can come up with is the Coleman Roadtrip Tabletop Charcoal Grill. Camping World has it but Lowes has the best price at $69.95 with store pickup.
Anyone know of one that I have missed? Thanks!

The one charcoal grill I travel with is one made by Weber. It's a rectangle shaped unit and is perfect for using for travel and has all the features you are looking for in a grill and more.
I'll try to find a name and model number for you and return with another post with that info.

I'm back after a quick search. It's the WeberŪ Go-Anywhere Charcoal Grill.
You can pick one up at Amazon, Target, etc.

We use a Weber gas grill since most states last year were so dry they banned charcoal, however we had a folding charcoal grill similar to this.

Unfortunately you are Right! It's a greater task than most would think. I can empathize with your frustration on your search. I've spent hours on various occasions over the past three years on line, including ebay, looking for something other than the stamped steel versions that range from 10.99 to 59.99 to supplement the LP Weber Q-1000. Tried a couple of the stamped steel ones and was not at all pleased. Please forgive, but I'm somewhat old school and want cast, preferably aluminum or iron and something that comes with a top to use for smoking and/or indirect coking. Weber used to make one in the Q style, but apparently it's been discontinued. Years ago I modified a small , 6 burger size, table top cast aluminum gas grill to use for charcoal. I used sheet aluminum to patch the excess holes and create the ability to indirect cook, but after 10 plus years and three campers I wore out the hinges and the handle pegs that held the collapsible legs. Got the wife keeping an eye out for a worn out Q-1000 in a garage sale so I can do the modify trick again. For the time being, in spite of not having a top, hinged or not, I caught the small, but very heavy, open grill Lodge L-410 cast iron grill/hibachi for $69.95 on a close out sale and making do with it until I can come up with something I really want that does have a top.

We looked at that one also. It's no doubt a quality grill but it's much taller when folded than we would like. It's still in the running though!

Actually that is not exactly what I have. I can't find it online anymore, but it is similar. It does work very well.

We've been using the picnic time X Grill for over 4yrs. now. It works great, and after you've used it a few times you'll realize how little charcoal you need to use. Plus it hardly takes up any room at all, and with the carrying bag everything stays clean. In the last two days I've done a rack of ribs, and hamburgers. I also had the concern with it burning through, so much so that I bought two just in case. Well the second one has never been out of the box.

We have used a Weber kettle style, it came in the MH still in the box never used, stamped 1982. The legs detach with wing nuts, the cover fits inside the lower half and back into the box and into the rear closet, Yes I clean it every time. We store the charcoal in one of those big plastic containers that animal cookies come in. No Mess.
Only problem, the way I make my burgers I can only fit 4 of them on the grill
Now I'm hungry for a burger.
This is it

On edit...something I always do is line it with heavy duty aluminum foil which helps radiate the heat, and also makes for easy clean up.

We ran out of patience with the thinner metal grills that are so popular and went with a small Char-Griller ... think it is the model 2-2424. Been dragging it around for about four years now, grilling more evening meals than not, and is still in perfect shape! [JINX] \ken
PS. The beer standing next to it is an after-market mod.
