I've heard the Honda gets it's fresh air from the bottom and it is a good idea to sit it on plywood while on dirt. My Yammy gets it's air from the ends, but I still sit it on plywood.

I also machined a 3" extension, used the stock clamp to mounted it and put a Briggs and Stratton screw-on lawn mower muffler on the end. Lowered the dbs a little.

Don't have the capability to machine anything, but that there's a handy idea.

I already had a piece of aluminum 1/2" threaded conduit and just bored it out to fit the Yammy exhaust port. I originally had the 4" straight thru mower muffler, but this is claimed to be 50% quieter. Can't say for sure; don't have a db meter.

actually... Ive owned both. I switched to the honda because it came out with the "companion" model and the MSRP on the parallel cable for the yammie was $100. Of course my first set of EU gennies I paid $200 for a gentran parallel setup that ended up breaking and the stupid power outlet.

I like to buy American whenever practical. However, if either of these manufacturers decide to enter the mainstream RV generator market, Onan is in danger of loosing a lot of business. I know the Diesel generators are pretty quiet, I'm talking about the 4000 and 7000W gas generators.

Honda WAS in the built-in RV generator business. They built a water cooled two cylinder 4000w and 6000w version. The EV4000 and EV6000. I had a EV4000 in our first RV a 27' class C. It was quite noisy as it turned 3700 rpm all the time and had three different cooling fans that emitted a very annoying whine. They have been discontinued I am told.

I really like that eco mode Hondas have. I leave it in that switch position all the time. It typically runs 24 hours or close to it when I use it for my house.

A plus for Honda as opposed to Yamaha is the Honda EU series engines have a fuel pump. That makes it very simple to add a exterior extended run fuel tank. I have a 3 gallon outboard motor tank connected to my Honda EU1000i and it will run a week of normal battery charging time without ever having to look at fuel. I bought a fuel tank cap from ebay that has 1/8" pipe thread on top that was easy to plumb to the tank.

I leave my Yamaha in the econo mode too. Haven't had any reason to use it with econo off.
