Post warranty issue

I just joined this forum as i would like to get some feedback from fellow RV'ers... We purchased an open range 4 years ago and we are generally happy about it. We had some issues that i believe is common in any new purchase but here is a biggie... The cosmetic panel on the outside is starting to crack and you can see the lines of a 'patch' behind that section. You can see some screws and the cracks are happening on the edges of that patch behind... The 2 year warranty is over and the dealer believe that it was a fix before they got it on the lot. The manufacture is looking into it and i sure hope that they will help with this. They estimate it at a $3000 fix... Pretty upsetting thinking it was supposed to be brand new upon the purchase! Also we just had to get the inside wall (at the back of the unit) opened and looked at as it was de-laminating (peeling off). The seals were fine and there was no sign of water or condensation. This will cost around $800 as the 2 year warranty is over and the extended warranty will not cover this. Now, I am wondering, is that something someone experienced before? Any suggestion? I heard of a wall peeling before but it was a 15 year old unit with some water damage... Help anyone? Legal advice necessary you think?

Unfortunately I think you're out of luck as far as getting anyone to pay for it. No warranty, the service policy (they're not "warranties") is gone and wouldn't have paid for it anyway. Your vehicle insurance won't cover it either.
Why do you think you have any legal recourse and against who?

As i mentioned, it looks like the unit was patched previously and so does the dealer think. There should'nt be any 'hidden' flaws like so upon purchasing a new unit...

Welcome to the forum. Sorry you're having such problems.

I would sure hope that they would stand behind their product on issues like this... especially when you learn that the "new" rig you bought had already been damaged in some sort of accident.

Please keep us posted.

Well, it has certainly taking some time to settle this (no thanks to the dealer on their fast cooperation) but Open Range have been really nice with us and very understanding. After a few phone calls, each conversations honest and to the point, they have agreed that something was unusual in the top corner outside the unit where it looked like a 'patched' repair and they offered to fix it for us. They are covering all the work for us. I am very happy that they acknowledge this and glad to see they stand by their product with great service. I wish i could say the same for the dealer though... they really dropped the ball with this one. Disappointed I bought it there, I felt the poor service the day we went to visit the unit but unfortunately they are the only ones carrying Open Range near us. Well, it is almost over and hoping to be 'home' for Christmas!
