Power Converter Location

I installed a brand new house battery in a '97 Shasta and nothing in the cabin works while driving (refrigerator, specifically), without running the generator.

Where would I find the power converter so I can swap it out, as I suspect this is the failed component?

Thanks,
Chad

The power converter takes 110 to 12v, so it’s working fine if you have 12v power wile running the generator(actually does not have any 12v generation). Sounds like you have a faulty battery disconnect.

Follow the large 10 or 8AWG wires from the house battery and that should lead you to it.

Could you be a little more specific on what a "'97 Shasta" is? Google says it can be a Class C, 5th wheel, or a trailer. In general, your converter/charger is wired into your breaker panel and also many incorporate your 12v house fuses. Before replacing it, check that all breakers and fuses on the converter/charger are good. It's not uncommon for switching out a battery to trip the breakers on the converter/charger. When you find it, use Google to find a manual for it, that might tell more about its operation and breakers.

New house battery and NO DC

Run gen and you have DC

THAT does not sound like converter issue.
Gen supplies AC power which converter changes into DC power

Battery supplies DC when there is NO AC Power......unless battery POS cable in-line fuse is BAD (typically located close to battery)or battery disconnect switch is off or battery NEG to ground is not making good contact

Converters are typically located with AC Power Panel/DC Dist Panel or close by (behind/below etc)

The gen set powers the converter to supply 12 volt power to the interior 12 volt systems and charge the coach battery .
So if the fridge works with the gen set running; RV fridges need 12 volt power to the control board in order to function on propane or 120 volt ; there's a good chance the converter is ok.
To check , converter output to the battery , use a voltmeter at the battery on shore power or with the gen set running and you should get a reading of 13.2 volts up to 14.1.

Has the 12 volt system worked correctly at all since the battery was installed?
Any chance you could have missed a wire during the install?
