I currently have our Select Comfort air bed plugged into one side of a duplex outlet located in the radiator area. This was the closest outlet I could find when we installed the bed on a trip away from home.

The other outlet is for the engine block heater to be plugged into but since we don't need that in SoCal...yet, I chose this outlet.

What has become clear is that this outlet ONLY works off shore or generator power and NOT the inverter...so here are the questions.

1. is this correct or should it be on an inverter circuit

2. without researching it, can the dual pump of this unit draw more than the 1000W Heart Interface mod-sine inverter can handle

3. would wiring this to an inverter powered 110V circuit overheat the pump (sim. to heating blankets)

It would be nice to adjust it on the fly or boondocking without having to use the genset or shore power (if there is any). How are coaches that come with these wired?

Any help would be appreciated.

For MonacoMomma, could you ask Sacs to see how your coach was orig. wired for this thing...when he gets a break from his honey-do list?

Thank you.

Ken

Ours runs off an inverter-powered outlet. There are 2 different types of pumps - we have the reciprocating kind (that sounds like a fish tank pump, not the one that sounds like a vacuum cleaner).

The engine heat circuit is NOT powered by the inverter . . . way too much current draw. Probably exceeds the 2KW capability of most large inverters.

We only have to adjust ours every couple of weeks - don't necessarily see it only working on shore power would be a problem. According to Select Comfort, it only draws 60 watts of power. (Works out to about a 7A draw off the batteries, taking inverter efficiency into account.)

Ours was factory installed and plugged into a outlet not powered by the inverter. We have run a extension cord in the bedroom to a inverter circut to charge the bed after a mountainous trip. The inverter carried it easily. If the bed doesn't leak, the pump will rarely run unless you have significant altitude changes. We have a 2000 watt inverter but I suspect a 1000 would carry it easily.

Thanks for the replies. Ours has the "fish tank" type of pump. It holds air well and we only deflate it a bit if we are changing altitude rapidly.

I may re-wire to an inverter fed circuit. I will have to ID which panel/circuit I can tap off of for inverter power only.
