PPL sales

Just for grins we called PPL Houston to see what they would ask for our MH. After much discussion with a very UNKNOWLEDGEABLE young lady she advised it had a NADA of 46-50K which is where they would price it. Wow says I..... Went to NADA myself and found low retail at 71K and normal retail at 84K (no wholesale). Appears their secret to selling so many RV's is to "give them away"!

Hal, realistically, in todays RV market, they are selling for close to LOW Retail. You can ask for more, and you my find a buyer, but with the internet, more and more are doing their home work first.

We looked at several Carriage Cameos on their lot earlier this year. One was a fairly nice trailer, but was WAY over average retail. The owner was up-side down and would not budge. It sat there for a long time.

We bought ours below low retail in east Texas.

There do appear to be some bargains to be had at the moment.

Have a look at this one. I have to say that it looks very reasonably priced. I wish I was in a buying position.

I think ppl know the market , it's low retail no options and get it sold .
I looked at many units with private sellers , over a year ago that are still for sale

Motor home for sale

I think this is the motor home for sale on Creek rd. in Lewiston NY. It was sitting for sale all summer long. My take is that anyone with $ is scared to spend with the uncertain economy. Gasoline prices have gone up 25cents making gasoline in NY at $405.9 a gallon. Best of luck to the seller. It looks like a very nice unit.

It's no sweat off PPLs back. Their $ comes from commission. The faster and the more they turn the more they make. It's a winning formula for PPL and the buyer if they convince the seller to sell it below what it's really worth.

And there, IMHO, is the crux of the question - in today's marketplace, who is the arbiter of what an RV is really worth? There will always be a few uneducated consumers who are willing to overpay, but I daresay they are becoming more and more rare with the internet tools available to see what comparable units are actually selling for. It appears to me that today's marketplace is one in which the buyer will decide either to pull out the checkbook at what he considers a reasonable price or to pass on that unit and look for the next one. Thus, the plethora of overpriced units remaining unsold on dealers' lots and in owners' driveways.

JM2CW.....YMMV.

Any RV is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay

You only live once (or so I am told except when I travel i Buddhist countries ) and our RVing experience has been priceless.

I am very fortunate that I have been able to do it, and I would not have missed it for the world. It has been as good as I expected in every way. Whether you are able to travel in "Rock Star style" or on a budget is not the important part. Meeting people and making friends is what counts .

I believe PPL charges you a flat fee to sell your motorhome so they don't profit from selling price. I have purchased from them. They are very reputable.

Unless they have recently changed their business model, that is not correct.

When I sold our previous coach thru PPL they charged the seller a 10% commission on whatever price they can get a buyer and seller to agree upon. The seller always has the right to say "no" to any offer PPL has gotten from a buyer. Since they make more $$ on a higher price, they have "some" interest in getting the most they can from a buyer......BUT, they don't make ANYTHING unless they convince BOTH parties it is a "good deal", so there can be some pressure on the seller to take an offer, especially if the unit has been there for a long time.

When I sold my motor home through ppl in October 2010, they priced it near nada max and it sold near that value. Perhaps the price would have been set higher had they been able to see the rv. As for me, I'm completely satisfied with my dealings with ppl.
