About $250 for plates in Mich. No PP Tax or Excise Tax. They also offer 30 and 60 temp plates for those that dont use them often. Im thinking $50 for 30 and $80 for 60 days.

Georgia just passed a law that any new purchase, you pay a one time 7% tax and from then on you only buy the license plate each year, usually less than $10.
What you own now, you continue to pay taxes each year.

We live in Ga. and paid somewhere around $300 last year in tag fee and ad valorem tax on 1999 Holiday Rambler gasser. I think that's ridiculous enough, but with the new law just passed that Wizard mentioned, you pay upfront when you buy. So if you purchase a $100,000 motorhome, you'll pay $7,000 up front in tag/title fees. If you decide to sell it in 2 years, that comes to $3,500 A YEAR that you've paid. I'm not a happy camper....

In Michigan tag is based on purchase price. Tag price goes down 10% for the first 3 yrs (from new) then stays the same after that. Our 1999 will cost $600.00 for a full year. They do prorate it based on when you get it and it expires on the registereds' birthday for us snow birds.
Seems we pay alot for a little sticker!

$288 a yr. in MI, and our insurance almost doubled after moving here. It's due to the no fault insurance law's here.

I need to move
As I posted in a previous thread, I pay an excise tax in Indiana. It's based on the price (SMRP; not what you paid) of the MH and decreases yearly after that. To run my 2011 40' MH down the highway, the state of Indiana thinks they deserve to receive $2,700. I approved a prominent state senator about it and he was surprised to learn that it was that much.
The excise tax paid when you license the MH used to be a personal property tax paid in the county of residence. So if you owned a MH you had to pay the tax. The excise tax is paid ONLY if you license the vehicle because it's paid at the BMV. (So . . . . . . . . . . if your 5er, TT, or MH doesn't go anywhere, you can skip on the license plate and pay $0.00) You should see the number of vehicles sitting at our campground without a license plate. The state of Indiana is losing a LOT of money on this change in taxation.
I need to state my humble opinion on the state of Indiana. It's not in debt and will not be in debt as long as Gov. Mitch Daniels is in office. "If it can't be paid for with what we have, find some expense to cut" is his position. Can't say that for too many states, now can ya? And no, 200,000 Class A MH (if we had them) could not create a balanced budget. Fiscal responsibility balanced the budget.

There is no "good" answer for this question. As noted above, cheap plates, high PP tax. Other states, expensive plates, no PP tax. No matter how you cut it, the state is going to get more than their share.
