I agree with you that CW prices are too high but when they're the only game in town, you have to pay to play. If I need it now, I have no choice. However, I am increasingly dissatisfied with their offerings. Many of their maintenance items are DICOR or single source variety. I'm sorry but some of us like the other brands CW used to carry better. I'm a do-it-yourselfer and many items I've needed to upgrade my RV are simply not stocked at CW. So if I need to order an item, I can definitely find it cheaper somewhere else. Walmart even has a small RV section for everyday stuff while traveling.

It's the same way with the camping store at the CG i frequent. They have almost EVERYTHING you would ever need, which is VERY convenient when you are camping and 'need it now'. I pay the higher prices for the convenience factor. I'd rather pay a bit more and get what I really need vs pay less and have to drive all over the place looking for it.

I haven't shopped at CW for years. I even told them not to send me any more catalogs. I find that by the time I join the presidents club, pay shipping plus the price of what ever I'm ordering, I can buy it locally a lot cheaper. Once I wanted to buy a sewer solution, CW's cost was $105 plus club fees plus shipping. price here in town was $87 and not one cent of that was for shipping. That is the last time I've ever looked at CW to buy something. I even have a catalog from the local dealers supply house and they beat CW hands down.

It's kinda nice to go in and browse around but I sure try to keep my wallet in my pocket. If there is something I see that I haven't ever seen anywhere else and the price is kinda right I may splurge but it also has to be something I will definately use. So far though my money pretty much has stayed in my wallet.

Camping world has never been known as a "Best price" store. Though when you start taking notes they often surprise you.. They are never the best price store.

For one thing they want to sell you a "President's Club" card for what, 25 bucks I think, that's pure profit in their books.

But the fact is... They do have a good selection.. So you do the research and decide, is it worth the fuel to run all over finding what you want. Or is Shipping & Handeling charges going to push the price up (And do I really want to order sight unsceen) or what.

They are counting on you choosing one-stop shopping... I surf the web.

We make sure to hit CW maybe twice a year for a shop. Its awfully handy to have all that camping type stuff in one place, and the wife loves it that I "pay attention to her," i.e. fish out my wallet when we check out. But yes, if ordering on the net, some net shopping time will probably produce some savings.
I guess if I got into RV'ing to save the last dollar, I shoulda gotten into another business.

Camping World, like all retail outlets it seems, also has some (not all) really low quality imported goods. Check for quality of merchandise before you pay those HIGH prices.

You aint kiddin'! LOL

It cracks me up when I hear people who don't know anything about RV'ing who want to buy a cheap camper to 'save money on hotels'. I try to explain to them that this is more of a hobby and that if the only motivation to buy a camper is to save money on camping they are better off not doing it, as it can get expensive (not to mention obtaining new 'gadgets' is addictive lol)

Somebody once told me, "Buying a motorhome to save money on travel is like buying a boat to save money on fish."

That math just doesn't work.

Take care,
Stu

Exactly

And if they don't REALLY enjoy it, the so called money saver ends up being a very expensive driveway "decoration". LOL

CW suffers like all bricks and mortar businesses... Lots of competition from on-line stores with little over-head. If I had a CW close, I would.use it a little more.

If I need RV specific stuff shipped I'll hit www.RVupgrades.com first time every time.
CW only if I'm passing by one and need it now.
Non RV specific stuff is typically Amazon.
