Prodigy 3 brake controller

I am seeing several problems with the brake controller. When it rains the controller puts out the error message "short to battery" and the screen turns red. I have had the item checked several times and had no luck produccing this error when spraying water underneath. This happens when the camper is not hooked up.

Also I have noticed that the screen looks funny. (when the screen isn't red) and the company logo etc.. is showing. It looks sort of translucent or like an inside of an oyster shell. Sorry but hard to describe the color.

Any ideas on what could be causing the 2 problems.

Thanks, Tom

The most common place for this sort of short to occur is at the trailer plug, which I presume is the standard 7-pin Bargman type. The Prodigy is sensitive to any current flow , so it doesn't take much to trigger the "Short to Battery" diagnostic. It may take time for the water to soak in enough to cause the short, so spraying doesn't always show it.

This is what Tekonsha lsist as possible causes:
* Brake wire shorted to an external power supply
* Moisture in trailer connector
* Contamination in the trailer connector
* Faulty control

Note that a faulty controller is a possibility, and your comment about the display quality might be an indication of an internal problem. Have you contacted Tekonsha (Cequent) to ask about that?

Contact - Tekonsha

Contacted the company, Tekonsha today and they gave me the go ahead to return it and get another one. The P3's have a lifetime warranty. It was a little under 3 years old. Very nice rep at the company and when he heard about the display it was send it back and we will get you another one. Great company!!

If it is showing SHORT when not hooked to the trailer the problem is in the tow vehcle. As the other poster suggested, I'd start with the outlet (Jack) on the tow vehicle and work my way foreward from there.
