Programing EC 30 Onan system

I just had the Onan EC 30 module installed and I am trying to learn about it. I know the auto gen start can be program ed for low battery. Can it be programed for temperature start as well for A/C???

Yes it can, that is how we have ours programmed. You will have to read/follow the instructions to set it up.

We travel with dogs and wanted to make sure that the coach would stay cool if the shore power went out so I have the EC30W programmed to a relatively low temperature (64F) so that if we are hooked to shore power and we loose it the generator will start. Naturally the AC units have to be on for this to work.

On a regular basis I check to make sure that it works by testing it. When we are getting ready to leave I will flip the 30/50 amp breaker off, the system thinks we lost power so after a period of time (~2 minutes) the generator starts.

Not related to your original question but since your install is new thought this info might be valuable.

My EC-30 kept losing communication to the control unit. I had Onan move the box into the overhead of my RV near the gen-start switch. I have a lot of metal between the generator bay and the inside of the coach. The instructions don't say you can do this but it can be done by wiring the control box to the gen-start switch. Should you lose communication, consider moving the control box inside. You will need to find a 12 volt source from the house batteries. In my case, we used the hot side of the boost switch for that 12 volt source.

Good Point

I had the same problem, I ended up moving the remote unit to within ~10 feet of the front. It still occasionally loses communication but not as bad as it did. I also mounted my base unit directly above the generator on the firewall, I may consider moving it up a couple feet to eliminate more interference.
