Angry Progressive hikes rate 45%

Just got the bill for my insurance renewal with Progressive. Rate has gone up 45% for the same coverage. I did file a claim for windshield repair - zero deductible on that - claim was for $60. I wonder if that claim resulted in the rate hike. If so, the hike was about 6 times the amount of the claim. Anyone else had a similar hike? I'm in California - can't find any info about a general rise in rates due to lots of claims or whatever - anyone have info?

thanks,
John in San Diego

Had the same problem in Florida. Dumped them and put my Motorhome with Geico. They raised the rate each year with Zero claims, tickets, accidents and superb credit score.

I had Progressive for many years and 3 motorhomes. When I got this latest coach Progressive was about $1000 more than what I pay now with Safeco.

Unhappy

I have Safeco insurance. No accidents, no tickets, no claims, and a 25% increase in premiums.

We renewed with them in February. I think our rates went up about $30.00. We too had a windshield claim. We're in FL and still have a home so it's not a "full-time" policy.

Same reason I dropped them. I called them and told them they can put it back and get their payment or get nothing. They chose nothing and Gieco got the payments. We had a dump truck open its tailgate in front of us. Progressive wanted to do each rock as a separate collision. There were hundreds. I don't think so Jack is exactly what I told them.

Don't Know if it's true or not but I was told it's because of all the total losses that they had to cover due to all the big storms we have been having in recent years

OP: Have you tried calling and getting the real reason for such a huge increase? Have you gotten any tickets?

I just got my Progressive renewal and it went up a little under 10%. Labor rates are going up and RV prices are going up.

Maybe it's a California thing? No tickets, no arrests, no terrorism accusations, excellent credit ratings, homeowner, etc. No claims on any other insurance (except health). If it goes up 45% annually I'll be priced out completely in a few years....maybe I need to buy lottery tix...

Rates change in different places for different reasons.....you'll never lock them down to an honest answer as to why. When I had Progressive, they were good for 4 years and doubled the rate. I dumped them and went with AAA. I just bought a new coach and AAA quoted me a pretty high rate for the last two months of my old policy. They renew all my vehicles in July, so I'll see what they do. If the motor home rate is excessive, I'll go shopping...will look at Geico and Safeco to start.

Keep in mind, insurance companies will never show any allegiance to you, so don't worry about showing them any.

Progressive just upped ours by $1000 for 3 vehicles. Funny thing is they are cancelling home owners policies all around us do to fire and ours renewed and went down. I will call them and give them the chance to salvage a customer that has everything we own insured by them but if not, bye bye.
