Hello all,

I use Progressive Insurance as the insurance provider for my motorhome. Those who have Progressive Insurance on their motorhome, have you used their Roadside Assistance?

Would like to hear good or bad, and how they compare to companies like CoachNet or Good Sam's Roadside Assistance.

We have Progressive on the RV, Harley and Fiat. So far we only have had to use it for the Harley when a deer decided to run a stop sign a couple of years ago. Could not be happier with them. They took care of not only everything on the bike but all boots, leather and helmet and a few other things. As the guy put it "we would rather replace the leathers and stuff then pay for medical, good thing you were wearing it all too" They did pay for the couple times Thom did have to go to the doctor, thought for a few he might have fractured a rib and leg from the deer kicking.

We Progressive and have only needed the roadside assistance once, the first day of the first trip. We had a blowout that did significant damage. Their roadside service came out changed the tire and worked on the metal and wiring in the dark and got us on our way.

Just insured my MH with Progressive last year. Cold weather in Kansas froze my gas line and stalled me. We had a senior moment and forgot about the assist rider on my insurance policy, and called a tow company ourselves. They towed us to a campground and we waited for warmer weather. When I remembered that I should have called Progressive first, they said no problem, mail us the receipt. Two weeks later, the check came in the mail. Color me happy. Besides, I have a crush on the TV commercial lady!

We were parked at a state park and the unit would not start. Called Progressive and they were very courteous and responsive. The only thing I ran into with them is that the person that took my information seemed to be a newbie and had to call back for more information.

They were very prompt to call back with the name of the tow truck company and followed up until they got there. The arrival time is a different story which I fault the local tow truck company for an not Progressive.

I reported the delays to Progressive and in addition to profusely apologizing for something not their direct fault, they sent me a $25 gift card.

I don't have Progressive, but I do have towing service through my insurance, as well as CoachNet.

My comment has to do with considering carrying another towing service, like CoachNet as well. There are several reasons that I found from experience that I recommend this;

1) If you plan to travel into Canada, CoachNet will cover you, the insurance may not.

2) If you have to be towed twice for one occurrence, you may have to pay out of pocket for the second tow. An example, you tow it somewhere like the campground and the end up needing to be towed to the repair shop due to the same issue. Or, you think you may need gas delivered, but then find it still requires a tow. Etc., etc... With having the other option available, it is simply one call for each provider.

3) Depending on where you break down, one service provider may be able to provide you with better service than the other. An example, I had one instance where one provider would have to send a truck from a town that was over 100 miles from where I was, but after calling the other provider they could send a truck that was fairly close to my location.

4) Another example, you coverage through the insurance rider may cost less than having CoachNet, but it may have mileage restrictions, etc.

Anyway, those are some reasons that I have both services.

Progressive is an insurance company. It's mostly for accidents and such. CoachNet is more for when you break down. Sometimes they cross but most times not. We have Progressive for insurance and then we have CoachNet and AAA for other things.

The OP was specifically asking for feedback in regard to Progressive Roadside Assistance service, from others that used it, versus their insurance.

I assume that Progressive has the option for adding a rider for Roadside Assistance service, just like my insurance offers. You may not be aware of this type of rider, but the OP does.

Therefore, it does directly crossover.

We have the option but don't rely on it. We would rather pay for a service that is more centered on RV's like CoachNet. If I remember right there is a limit on the miles for towing and the number of tows thru Progressive.

Had Progressive for the RV and never used their Roadside Service. However, I just dropped Progressive for Blue Sky RV Insurance and picked up their Roadside Assistance [that covers all of vehicles, even though the autos are not insured by them] and it only cost $52.00 per year. Same coverage as CoachNet, but much cheaper. Their reviews by other IRV2 members have given them nothing but HIGH PRAISE!!
