Hi..we're in Northern Calif...not that far from SF...but not at a campground...and none of the Propane Delivery services will or can fill or Coach's Propane 50 gal tank...we have never had this problem anywhere else...The service we use for the house can't fill the coach...
REALLY HOPING someone knows of a company north of SF (North Bay) that can help us...

there is a place south of Santa Rosa off of Todd Rd,
but you have to drive there can't remember the name
you can see it from the freeway.

koa in petaluma sells propane . i am sure there is other rv parks in the area that sell it. you don't have to stay there to purchase propane

The only thing any LPG company needs is the adapter to fit your MH tank. You might buy an adapter from an LPG company and keep it in your MH for these situations. Some rental companies also fill MH propane tanks, which might also be a source for buying an adapter.

I've been turned down by Amerigas, they say the truck delivers propane too fast for my small tank, or their insurance won't cover filling a RV.

Well, after those answers I happened to work for a small independant Propane company in north central California for two winters. We had no problem filling RVs. The rate of flow from the truck was not a problem. My boss didn't care about the small delivery, except it had to be along a regular delivery route. You might have to wait two or three days depending on when you called for a fill up. Each of his four trucks had a planned delivery route to cover each day.

I would look in the phone book for local Propane Companies and call the smaller ones. Smaller the better. Hopefully one of them will schedule you in. The fitting for your RV Tank is the same as for all the big house tanks.

Many states have rules now days that prevent propane delivery to a Motor home tank.. Alas, There is no good reason for this that I can think of.. but then I'm not a law maker.

Personally I like to start with propane wholesalers.. Often, but not always, they will be less expensive then their customers the retail outlets.

In the Flint, MI area for example. the wholesaler I get gas at is 50 cents to a dollar less than the area retailers.

In the SC area I park in that is...... Reversed.

I have seen propane tanks being filled in a number of RV Parks in California. They are normally filling tanks for the "permanent" residents but I don't know why they wouldn't fill any customers tanks. Getting them to make a trip to private property for one small tank might be the problem.

We're in Santa Cruz, CA for a few weeks and we brought 2 five gallon cylinders for extra propane. When we were here in January I called every propane company in the SC phone book and none of them would come out and fill my MH propane tank. That's why we brought the 2 tanks with us. I get them filled at a local gas station and remove the POL fitting from the MH tank and fasten it to the 5 gallon tanks.

I keep a Extendastay with me and a 20pound tank. I can swap the 20 at a lot of places if I get in a bind. Sometimes cheaper than moving my coach.

I live in N. Ca. and have never had a problem filling my propane tanks.

I usually go to a U Haul or a equipment rental place. I have owned a Class C and currently own a Class A.

One more thing, a answer like " another reason to leave Ca." is of no help at all.

Had the same problem down in east Texas, the home delivery guys were not allowed to fill portable and/or RV propane tanks. We had to take the RV down and drive up town to fill the tanks. Had we decided to to stayin that, I had planned on getting an extend a stay setup and rent one of the larger tanks the delivery drivers could service. Still ended up installing an extend a stay kit to use as back up should we decide on extended trips.
