Mike and Cha; OP here when I first bought the house the first winter/year I went thru 3 tanks of propane @ 1.09 a gl. Then I put a wood stove in the living room and get the wood off my own property (23acres), and I now use 1 tank (approx. 370gl) per year.

Made it out to pflugerville propane today, it was $3.00 gal, just down the street from uhaul which was $3.99.
Is it normal for them not to fill it up all the way? They filled it less than 3/4, did not notice till I got it home. It was a little cool today 40 or 50 degrees, maybe for expansion when it warms up, I know they have filled it fuller before.

Mine only fills to 3/4 also...the newer tanks have a internal float overfill valve that shuts the flow off before its full. My one horizontal 60# tank is no where near what my 2, 30# removal able tanks held.
I installed a tee type adapter inline at the RV tank to use a portable 20# or 1# propane tank when needed.

I've stopped twice @ Tractor Supply and 2 different guys and neither could fill my tank on my PA. They are the only ones that can't fill it

This is what I bought to never run out of propane.. a BBQ tank will supply your RV. I tested a 1 lb. disposal able tank and it ran my refrigerator for 2 days.

Dlindy, Thanks for the info, that makes alot of sense re the wood stove as a heater...1 tank a year would be reasonable for all the other stuff, cooking, hot water ect. I was worried that living off the propane instead of natural gas would be too expensive.

I will give you my situation, but keep in mind everyone will have different results. I pre-bought 800 gallons of propane this year (like I have for the last 16 out of 17 years) and it should last me for one year. I am in northern Minnesota with a 1536 sq ft house and a propane furnace, water heater, stove, and dryer.

U-Haul pricing
I just filled up this weekend at U-Haul and it was $3.09/g. The guy mentioned that if I didn't get as much as I did (19.7 gals), the price would've been something like $3.25 or something. I think the price point changes after 10 gals.

I ran into one guy who couldn't figure out how to fill mine last January. I kept telling him he was using the wrong fitting, but he knew more than I did. I left and drove to Tractor Supply Store nearby and a very knowledgeable young lady (everyone is young to me these days!) promptly and safely fill my coach tank with no muss no fuss. She knew what she was doing. I guess there will always be a Bubba no matter where you shop.

I filled mine about a month ago and paid 3.69 a gallon. I thought it was reasonable till I talked to my cousin in Arkansas and it was 1.81 a gallon there.
