Punta Gorda couple visiting all 61 national parks

This is how to do it! From my hometown newspaper. ( not the whole artical )

PUNTA GORDA — Eric and Myrian Steinbaugh always wanted to see the world.

It wasn’t until Myrian was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 that the Punta Gorda residents decided to act on those wishes.

As Myrian was recovering from surgery to remove a cancerous tumor, she told her husband: “You know all those things we said we were going to do someday? Well, today is someday.”

Now, a decade and 48,000 miles later, the two have visited almost all 61 U.S. national parks.

NICE! I can relate with them. Health issues are the reason that we started going RVing again. Trying to pare down the bucket list while I can still walk!

You made me do a count. We've been to 45 of them. I think the rest are either in California our require passing thru New York to get to them. I guess we'll never make it those.

More power to them...we only get one go round. We've been to 39 NPs so far, and hope to visit some more. Some will knock your socks off.

Not so easy if you count the no access parks in Alaska, and the way out in the Pacific ocean parks which would require a boat capable of long distance travel. Probably a fair sized sailboat.

So they better be young enough for serious distance wilderness hiking in Alaska and rich enough to travel to the Pacific parks.

"While the National Park System comprises 418 national park sites, only 61 of them have the “National Park” designation in their names. The other sites fall into different National Park System categories like National Historic Sites, National Monuments, National Seashores, National Recreation Areas, and others. The Park Service’s website has a handy U.S. National Parks map, as well as a U.S. National Parks list for reference."

(Random quote, but appears to be correct.)

We've been in about 200. It's our main topic on our bucket list. Some are just too far off many rural roads. Battlefields can be very repetitive.
Will catch a few more in Alaska next year.
