Purchase Generator in Quartzsite?

Hi All!,

Going to Quartzite for the first time next month for a week and figured I would wait to buy a generator down there so that I could get peoples opinion on what model to buy, shop for good prices etc...then I started thinking I should check on here if I'm taking my chances by waiting since I have a 32' Mountaineer 31 RSL and don't want to get stuck without power after a few days.

I'd appreciate any thoughts or ideas on this......Thanks!

Q will be a great place to get people's swing on their generators...maybe even get a good deal....but Harbor Freight had some on sale just last week and even if they aren't anymore the prices still are pretty good IMHO.

This is our seventh year at Quartzsite, and even though I have not checked prices on generators, my observation is that you can get almost anything you want for an RV here, except a bargain, so before you get here check on line for prices for generators that you may interest you.

When buying a generator, buy the quietest one you can afford that supplies the power you need. Your neighbors will thank you.

You will see Honda, Yamaha, and Champions for sale. None of them are a deal plus the sales tax is around 10%, could be 11%.

Order on line, save sales tax and some ship free.

I agree... Honda is hard to beat in my opinion.

It will probably serve you just as good as the over priced Honda. The Champions got a bad rap because why I don't know. Probably because they aren't red.

You will find a lot of happy Champion owners out there. I don't own one but if I were to buy a portable, I would look seriously at them.

There is one that Costco sells that is getting good reviews.

I had a Honda years ago and it was not that quiet. I bought a used Champion a couple years ago that I use for my camping trailer and am very happy with it. It is not any noisier and in fact I think it may be quieter. I am sure the newer Hondas may be some quieter but they are definitely more expensive.

Here's something you might watch to give you some ideas for your Generator Check List:
I have owned this Yamaha Generator for 3 years and other than oil change, it has required no service and still starts on the first pull when I need it.

Service after the sale is as important as price IMO. Where will you go for warranty claims? For instance, Boily gensets beat Honda specs when comparing their 3000W models, and beat Yamaha too. But that's not the entire story.
If my Boily 3600W inverter series failed under warranty, I would have to ship it back to the seller for repair or replacement. I've had one problem with it in 9 years, needed new carb due to my neglect. A new carb cost $37 + tax, and every item that is replaceable is an easy DIY job.

I used to have a Genrac 1000 watt traditional (not an inverter) model, in most respects it competed with a Honda 2000 inverter type, (Weight, Fuel consumption, Noise and such) Worked well and delivered a true 1000 watts (the inverters that is their peak rating) wish I still had it but it grew legs and walked off on me.

When Last I was at QZ inverter generators were Yahama, Honda or Kipoer and of those 3 I liked Yahama best.

Today there are many options.. Though Champion in the beginning played to poor ratings they have improved greatly... My only advice is to get an Inverter Generator and make sure you understand the model number is usually the PEAK watts and not nearly how much it can supply ongoing. That can be much lower. So read the mouse print.

I was hoping to hear good things about Champion ever since I saw this great price on Costco's website... 3000w for $800 and the noise level is same as the Honda.

Yep, and if you take the time to check out Consumer Reports, Generators, Generac, you'll be looking for another brand pretty quick!

Check out the website: Electric Generator Depot - Portable Generators For Sale - Buy Online, Free Shipping and Save

I purchased two Honda generators, an EU2000i and an EU2000ic, no sales tax, free shipping, and beat everyone else's prices I could find. I used a parallel cable, and an extended run fuel tank, worked GREAT for my Travel Trailer. Now have a Class, . . . .and two Honda generators in my shed . . . .

Go with a Honda, or a Yamaha, or possibly a Champion, the Honda's a quietest, and in my opinion, the best made, but the Yamaha isn't far behind. I don't have any personal experience with the Champion, but I've heard good things about them.

Stay away from Harbor Freight generators unless you want your neighbors to absolutely HATE you!
