Quartzsite and shutdown question

Does anyone have any information on what effect the current shutdown is having on BLM camping near Quartzsite? The BLM website is no help at all. Thanks for keeping comments to what's happening.

No impact, unless maybe the dumpster dont get emptied. Just pick a spot and park it.

The LTVAs are not staffed but the dump, toilets, and water stations are open.

No real specifics there about Quartzsite. I have heard the volunteers arenít working, entry stations closed, trash containers and dump station still open. I wonder how long they will leave the water on though. Probably only until the next sanitation test needs done. Hopefully the funding comes before that.

last year at QZ, the day I drove in, there was staff collecting the fees. I believe the next day, govt shut down. Those that came in after that had a 'free pass' as there was no one at the entrance to collect $$.

Yes, entry is now free and you can stay here at no cost. Once Congress gets their act together and the visitor stations open up the volunteers will be back at work collecting fees and checking for permits prior to you using the dump, water stations and dumpsters. There's a diligent junior ranger that rides around on a 4 wheeler checking for permits. If you don’t want him knocking on your door early in the morning I suggest you get your permit ASAP.

So far I haven’t seen any disruption of water, dump or trash. This is the worse time of year for this to happen. We have many thousands of RVs headed this way for the big RV show.

There are lots of places on BLM land where there isn't a "gatekeeper" to collect fees.

South of town at mile post 99 is one of them

Only the BLM LTVAs (long term visitor areas) charge any fees. The other areas do have a camp host and you are required to register and post a pass with the 14th day written on it

I choose to pay the seasonal fee of $180 because I don’t want to pack up and move every 2 weeks. There is also a 2 week pass for $40. Plus the LTVAs have water, dump and trash facilities. Otherwise I would have to drive into Quartzsite and pay for those services.

The LTVA passes are good at all the LTVAs so you can move to the ones in California also.

Now with the shutdown no one is issuing passes, but you can still come in and park or use the facilities. I sure hope Congress gets their job done soon. January is when the big influx of visitors arrive here for the big RV show. Facilities are stretched really thin with just pass holders using them. And the BLM will lose a LOT of revenue if no one is collecting fees.

This shutdown looks less punitive than the last one. The last big shutdown, they were paying more money to keep people out then to let them in. We were in DC at the last shutdown, our second day of a two week stay and they were erecting fences around walk up monuments. That shutdown was designed to make the people mad.

Here's a link to pay fees that you couldn’t during the shutdown.

BLM Yuma district has a MASSIVE budget shortfall due to Congress being so stubborn. Paying your fair share will assure that services continue. Thanks!
