Question Question about storage modification

Hello! We have a 24' 2004 Class C Four Winds 5000. We have a hitch trailer that is approximately 5' x 3' and folds up flat against the rear when its not in use.

We've thought about attaching a base cabinet (like a rubbermaid garage cabinet or something a bit sturdier that locks with a padlock) to the trailer to store some of the things we'd like to take when we're gone weeks at a time but don't have the inside space for (there also isn't much storage underneath). Dog food, cleaning supplies, yadda yadda. Can someone talk to me about that? We already have the hitch trailer so I'd hate to buy a whole other piece for the hitch - but I've never seen something like what we'd like to do.

That being said, we're literally brand new to traveling in an RV. I've googled and searched and pinterested until I can't see straight - so here I am!!

Thank you for the advice!
Natalie

If you're talking about this kind of Rubbermaid cabinet they would not hold up during traveling. They wouldn't withstand wind.

Resin Cabinets | Rubbermaid

Yep unfortunately that's what I was thinking of! Do you think the concept would work with a different cabinet? Steel? Or forget the idea altogether.

It will most likely work BUT, you will need to check the weight limit on the hitch. If it's the type that plugs into the 2" X 2" hitch you have 500# including the trailer.

How about a crossbody pickup tool box, I've seen a number of those on the back of Rvs, come in a variety of configurations. I made my own storage box out of a used army footlocker.
