Question for IRVr's who ride motorcycles

If I am understanding your post, your recommendations are:

1. leave the dog at home

2. or, have two motorcycles...one with SC for dog, wife riding second two wheeler??

#2 ain't gonna happen. Wife has no desire to be the rider/driver.

We certainly understand the risks associated with motorcycles (I totalled my previous VStar) but as long as both the dog and wife can safely fit in the SC, don't see how the risk is increased. You said the rider in the photo had some problems...can you elaborate on what they were? His dog does not seem to be secured in the SC...our's would be with a harness.

over the years I have had friends that have hauled dogs of all sizes. from small enough to ride in a tank bag, to large enough to need their own trailer!!! most of them could not leave the drive without the mutt.go for it,you will probably all have a ball. some msf schools offer sidecar training,also usc sometimes offers courses. Virginia is one of the few states offering 3 wheeler training courses. I plan to take the sidecar/trike training course at a local community college in March.

This thread has been very interesting...we have a 75 pound dog and like others have said, where we go he goes. Therefore we needed a solution for our motorcycle and I think we've found several.

Well, this probably doesn't suit your needs, but I'll throw it in anyway... we have the Harley V Rod, the BMW K1200LT, a Honda racing replica, an MV Augusta, and a KTM, not to mention the 25 -30 vintage Trials bikes (depending on the day) and the 3 dogs. We trailer whatever bike(s) we want to ride, the dogs stay in the (temperature controlled) coach, and everyone has fun. So, we are fans of getting the bikes where we want to ride, then enjoying the ride (no long bike treks across through heat/rain/sleet/snow for us). Fair weather riders, as much as possible. Tony is an MSF Instructor, and I gotta ask, is it safe to have a dog on a bike or a sidecar? Dogs are unpredictable, a sidecar or a trailer somewhat restrict your ability to properly handle a bike, and add to that the distraction of being concerned about what your dog is doing in the sidecar/trailer. Seems like too much multi-tasking to me... riding requires absolute concentration, even on a good day.

Sorry, not trying to be a kill-joy, but we see too many people on bikes forgetting that a bike is a bike, with it comes inherent dangers, and being distracted is a fast route to problems. So, my vote is for dogs in RV, people on bike. I do hope you get back on a bike, but when you do, please put safety first.

I know that we ALL like to treat our pets as children,but they are not! They are animals, and will act like animals. Imagine being pulled down the road in a "cage" call it a trailer if you want, in weather that is "too hot", or "too cold", or wet. Having no control over your treatment because some human thinks you are cute. As a Police Officer for 32 years, I have seen the abuse people do to thier pets with the best of intentions. Please, think of the pet, and how they will be feeling at the end of a trip of setting in a cage on wheels, getting passed by trucks, and other vehicles, and scared out of their wits. I think the best place for the pets we love, are back in the rig with the heat/AC on to give them a comfortable environment. We love our pets, we just need to show it more. By the way, I have ridden for 38 years, instructed Police Motor Officers for 12 years, and civilian riders for 15. I know you mean well, and I appreciate your caring for your pet, but just wanted to bring out the pets side of it. After all, I have been dealing with animals most of my life, but the four legged ones are the nicest.
