Question Questions about selling our motorhome

Our kids are getting older and are in more activities now. So, we don't use our motorhome as much as we used to. It was a very tough decision, but we are selling our RV. We have it listed at a couple of websites and am getting ready to put it in the classifieds here.

Do potential buyers usually want to do a test drive? How is payment and the transfer of title usually done? Is it like a car and you just go to a title place? Do you accept a cashier's check? How do you know if it's a good check?

Any tips or suggestions on selling our beloved RV?

Thanks!

Sloan

Cash money or pick up a check from the buyers bank if they are financing. Title and registration is handled like an automobile. Yes, buyers are typically going to want to drive it. But limit test drives to those buyers really serious.

Almost all want a test drive - weeding out the serious one's is a must do, I don't go on a test drive until we have made a deal on price contingent on the test drive.
Title is done just like a car, in the two states I have sold a MH all I've done is sign the transfer of title paperwork and then filed the sales form either on-line or via snail mail.
Yes I take a cashiers check - call the issuing bank or go with them to the bank when they draw it.

Take lots of pictures of your motorhome and scan all maintenance records that you have. Then set up a simple PDF file that includes pictures, records, full spec sheet, weight sheet, original manufacturers invoice with the options and if possible the original brochure. You can then email that to any person who responds.

I tend to overload people with lots of information and it seems to work for me. I've sold 5 coaches private party and have had people travel over 1500 miles to buy. Bottom line be honest with people about the warts and let them know why you are selling in your PDF.

Caution: phony "cashiers checks" or "bank checks" are a common fraud these days. Don't accept one just cause it looks like a bank check. Either call the issuer yourself or ask your bank if they can validate the check for you. Otherwise, wait until the check clears before handing over the title. One way to do that is to use a third party to hold the funds and the title until everything clears.

I would NEVER accept a cashier's check unless you know and trust the buyer! There are many scams out there the use fake cashiers checks. Craigslist warns you about them.

For anyone that you don't know personally, I would insist on a direct transfer of funds between their bank and yours.

JMHO!
