For an upcoming trip I need information on the rural interstate speed limits for a truck/fiver combo in the following states; <UL TYPE=SQUARE>
<LI>Arkansas (I-30)
<LI>Missouri (I-55) (I-57)
<LI>Tennessee (I-40)
<LI>Kentucky (I-65)
<LI>Illinois (I-70)
<LI>Indiana (I-70)
<LI>Ohio (I-71)
<LI>Pennsylvania (I-90)
<LI>New York, western (I-90)[/list]
Also which of those states DO NOT allow the driver to use a cell phone (not a hand's free) while driving? I know it is illegal in New York.

As is the case with many of these on-line sources, I'd take the data listed with a grain of salt. Note that it incorrectly lists the Interstate truck speed limit for Texas as 65 MPH.

Yes I looked at some of the online sources and found some out of date. Of specific concern is any special speed limits for "towing trailers". I always set my personal maximun at 65 (for fuel consumption). I just dont want to hit any "55 or 60 if towing a trailer" states and not realize it.

Yep, fuel prices have scaled us back to 65 MPH as well. We ran back from San Antonio to Houston at 63-65 MPH behind an H-E-B semi on I-10 on Memorial Day. It was actually quite relaxing to sit in the right lane and watch the craziness going on in the left lane instead of being part of it. The 1/2 MPG gain over running 70-72 MPH was icing on the cake.

I think the states that have lower limits for trailers have the towing speed limit adequately posted. Keep an eye out for the signs.

Rusty, you're absolutley correct. I see the same guys pass me 4 to 5 times between Sioux Falls and Rapid City. I think the type A personalities must need to pee a lot.

I always drive in the right lane. We just lost two more left lane cruisers over the weekend. A
Tahoe pulling a poorly loaded RV trailer went out of control, jumped the barrier and headlonged into a Suburban driving in the opposite passing lane. Very sad deal. Much safer in the right or correct land and not in the passing lane. The driver of the Tahoe is probably going to prison on manslaughter charges. Chemically impaired was what the news media hinted at.

Robert & Nancy, I'm a fulltimer so I only go 55MPH. It would be difficult to tell you a safe speed due to the limits changing always. There is construction going on and the limit sometimes seem too slow. If you are around the Knoxville,TN area theres always construction going on and you had better obey the speed limit. They watch these roads closely. They had a news special a few years back that the police were dressed up in construction clothes using the radar gun catching people speeding.

Whenever I get a triptik from AAA, they have a little section in the front that lists speed limits, emergency cell phone numbers, headlight use, studded tire dates and child restraint and seat belt laws. My AAA campbook lists the trailer and RV regs. I noticed that it says in NC that you can ride in a towed trailer. That doesn't sound like a good idea?!

The triptik does show in Texas the different speed limits at night and for trucks.

Egads..... some will push that to 85 or 90.

more like 100+ DPS is going to have to get quicker cars.
When the speed limits were 55 everywhere about 18 years ago and I was a rookie working traffic on hwy 67 south of Dallas we never even bothered with vehicles until they were 70+. You could write 80/55 all shift long. My best catch was 119 in a 55. Our Crown Vic's topped out at 132 (electronic govenor) so it took a while to catch up to that one from a standing start. It helped that they slowed to 85 after passing by me.
