We are contemplating purchasing an '08 National RV Pacifica with the new very long slide out. We have been full timing 3 years in a 40' Itasca Horizon and are pleased with it...just have the new RV "bug.

We know about National RV's business problems. We are just interested if anyone has any comments on the rig or pricing. The rig is a Pacifica 40' FB40E listed at $263K on sale at $209K.

Any helpful comments appreciated,
Thanks,

Drof

I have looked at it and like what I see. I also want to know if there are any particular problems folks have had with that unit. I think you can do a little better on the price.

Good luck!

I don't have any experiance with the MH you
are inquiring about, but under the circumstances of National RV, or any other brand of MH, I would offer 70% of list and most definately would not pay more than 75% as the markup in these rigs is phenominal. If they don't/won't take your offer, than be prepared to walk as there will be others. One big concern that I would have is how/who will handle any problems that may/will arise during the warranty period.

National has more than a "business problem" - they are out of business. That means the warranty on the Pacifica is worthless, so figure that into your pricing. I would normally assume you could get a 25-30% discount off MSRP on a new motorhome, so get that much and much more to cover the loss of the manufacturer's warranty. You should still be able to get warranty service on the engine and chassis and probably the major appliances (they are separately warrantied). but don't be surprised if dealers want up front payment even for those and let you worry about the reimbursement.

AS for the Pacifica itself, we checked one out when we were shopping last year and, while it was nice enough, we felt that rigs like the Tiffin Phaeton offered much more in terms of comfort and quality, at the same price level. But if the Pacifica is what turns you on, then that's the right choice for you.

There probably aren't enough of them on the road to get meaningful feedback about reliability, but the previous and similar Tradewinds was well regarded by its owners.

I have driven one it rides and handles very nice. Great floor plans too. Just make sure they give you an extended warranty and a 50/50 in house warranty for the first year and you'll have a great coach at a great deal. Ron
