Oh, it matters very much how each of us thinks about this, one way or the other!

This seems to be very common here in the US, a progressive North American country.
I wonder too, how the schools and offices handle their recycling, when large groups of residents don't deal with it.

In NYC we recycle just about everything. separate trash cans for metals, paper, and household garbage.
In Fair Play SC metal, and corrugated cardboard only

The financial burden we are leaving future generations is far worse than any environmental burden created by cardboard and plastic bottles.

I hear ya. Can you find out if your thoughts are accurate of how the recyclables are handled?
True, we have not handled our affluence well in North America.
Our parents did not have credit cards, only credit they had was a mortgage.
But when we know better, we should do better.

Yup I get that, but with all due respect, my thoughts/recycling habits are off topic? The OP ask about our experiences regarding available services. Not for our thoughts regarding whether they should be there or not?

The small county campgrounds I frequent in my area of southwest MN recycle cans only if they recycle anything at all. The paper we just burn in the campfire and there are garbage cans or a dumpster provided for everything else.

Hard to be too concerned about being green when you are driving a 20,000 pound vehicle that gets 7 miles a gallon. It is all relative.
