Question Recycling Poll for US RV Parks

Do the RV Parks you have stayed in:
1. Recycle cans only?

2. Recycle paper/cardboard only?

3. Recycle paper/cardboard and cans only?

4. Recycle paper/cardboard, cans, and glass?

Thanks for your replies.

If you are not full timing, would appreciate answers with regard to the neighborhood in which you live, as well as mention of the State that neighborhood is in. TIA

Have stayed in parks from NC to FL in the past year that fall into every catagory. We prefer to recycle and the recycle containers to be easily accessible. Where we are now they are not. Most cg's have recycle center near dumpsters.
At home in Cabarrus County NC we recycle all the above into one container and the company that picks it up seperates it.

The only rv parks we stay at that recycle (out of about 20-25 per year) are government parks (state/federal/county). Through the years several commercial parks we have been to have tried recycling, but have stopped after one or two years. I have been told that the problems with people dumping the wrong stuff in the recycle bins and the labor involved to sort and clean makes it a loser.

We recycle at our winter stick and brick in FL only because we have to. The county workers recommend every year that the practice end as too expensive but the county commissioners are too leery of the green lobby to respond favorably to their recommendations.

Where we stayed in Las Vegas apartments, we could walk to the back of the parking lot and recycle cardboard/paper and cans. No glass recycling, all went into the landfill.

In the Las Vegas neighborhood where our friend lives, all recycling is separated into boxes for paper&cardboard - plastic - glass - cans.

Where we just stayed in RV park in Mesa, each campsite had a large blue recycle can picked up every two weeks, which accepted paper/cardboard, plastic, glass and cans.

Where we are staying now, only cans are recycled, because a charity group has put bins in which to collect them.

Can't figure out why if it works for some it can't work for all. Not sure how sorting is done at those places where all items are collected in one bin.

At the cost for employment, and for the protection of the environment, wouldn't it be a good idea to keep all this recyclable material out of the landfills?

~The Ohio State Park usually offer cans only, but a few have containers for plastic bottles also. Back about 7 or 8 years back Mohican had one of those large dumpster things that had openings for can, bottles, plastic and paper / cardboard.

~PA. Start Parks I can't recall seeing anything in the last 5 years...I remember asking a few summers back at Clear Creek SP. why the recycling containers were removed. The park personal said because of budget cuts, there are not enough man hours left for that program...

***Side note*** the company I work at (food warehouse / distribution center) with about a million sq. feet and 800 employees has been very aggressive in it's recycling the last 2 years. 5 years ago we would produce 200 compactor loads of trash a year. Last year we produced 25 loads. This year we are aiming for 12 loads. We recycle everything....Plastic pallet wrap, scrap pallet boards, cardboard, cardboard and plastic cornerboards, styrofoam, cans, plastic beverage bottles, computer paper, rain water, plastic bags, metal, wrap cores and composting

Most of the parks we stay in do not recycle, so DW separates and bags the recyclable materials and stores them in the basement until we find a suitable place to offload.

If she is not with me it all goes in the trash.

Until recycling makes financial sense, fewer and fewer parks will bother long term other than govenment run parks that do it using your tax money to pay for it.

I really do not think commercial campgrounds SHOULD pay for recycling. There are other amenities that the fees should be used for.

I am not anti green. But am a firm believer that green makes sense when the financials of green make sense and not before. Other than as research projects that should be clearly identified as such.

Our experience varies as well. Doesn't matter what I think about it one way or the other?

Financial sense vs. environmental sense. Hmmmmm, what are we leaving for our future generations?
What is it they say about money...'the root of all evil'?

No recycling in the places we stay. Privately owned parks only.
