Safety warnings will say not to but IMO that is because some folks do not pay attention to the instructions. You can't do a complete re-fill and will only get bout half but you could do that a few times.

DO NOT warm or cool either tank trying to get more in. there will be temperature change due to gas expansion & compression. take your time.

I also bought the adapter and did it once to a couple of bottles. Be careful not to over fill. I followed a youtube video getting to tank cold first. The next day one of the tanks ballooned out on the bottom. Scared me because I would normally keep them in the basement of the rv. Could had been a real problem if it cracked open letting all that propane out in my enclosed compartment. If you do it I would under fill to be safe.

Assuming everything goes right it might be okay. If it doesn't, duck when you see the flash. Not worth trying to save a few bucks.

This falls into the "just because you can, doesn't mean you should " category for me.

Not to start an argument but if you question your ability to refill then don't do it. I have refilled many different types and never had a problem.

I agree. If you want to take the time and trouble to learn how this is done safely - not just how some shmuck did it and got away with it - then go for it. Otherwise, it's not a good plan.

I've recently been considering the idea of refilling portable tanks from my main tank also but ultimately decided to go a different direction. While I'm reasonably confident I'd be able to do it safely and correctly, like others have commented it seems like more trouble than it's worth.

A secondary factor for me is that my main propane tank runs my refer, furnace, hot water heater, cook top and generator. Even with all those things feeding off it it lasts quite a while. I'm going to prioritize long-term boon docking endurance over the convenience of being able to refill small tanks.

They are called disposable bottles for a reason. Like mentioned before, just because you can doesn't mean you should. The adapters are intended to use a larger bottle (20lb cyl) on appliances that were designed to be used with the disposables.
Ask yourself is the little money you save worth losing your Life, well being, and possible the destruction of your coach?
