Refrigerator fan very noisy

We have a 2016 Coachman Leprechaun Class C with a 2 door frig but when the fan on the back side of the frig comes on it sounds almost like a jet plane near you. It's so loud inside you have to turn up the volume on the TV and it still does not drown out the noise from the fan... Need help

Do I need to change the fan (size / RPM), there is space enough to add a 2nd fan.

2. Also at the top of the frig looking in from the rear vent there is a space of about 6 inches. Can I add some insulation in this space? Or does it have to have open space there?

3. At the rear of he frig hanging down from the ceiling is a baffle board, that lets half of the hot air coming off the cooling fins, that the fan is moving air across, go into this area (on top of frig) I want to add insulation. Does any air need to be moved over the top of the frig? It is a boxed in dead air area.
And the other half of the air is vented outside through the top frig exterior vent.

Question is this baffle needed?
Is it located in the proper place?
Can I relocate this baffle next to the frig top and insulated the top and let the air move across the fins and out the vent.

The fan could be changed out to a quieter one. As far as the baffling goes, I would suggest you look at the installation manual of the refrigerator for proper installation. You can fill in the top and sides of the unit with bat insulation but the rear of the cooling unit should not more than 1 " from the outside wall. You should also make sure the hot air is easily vented off the top of the condenser and out the side vent. Good luck and keep us posted.

Sounds like you've got a defective fan! I can't imagine one making that much noise!

I checked the installation instructions and it does say the top can be insulated.
It talks about the 1" clearance in the rear of the frig and if that area is large/open the use of a baffle box to fill the extra space should be installed at the time of mfg.
No baffle box, and no way to get one in.
The owners manual does give me some fan info to match with model number. I will be checking that out. Best place to purchase replacement fan? Ebay?

Thanks, I will keep you posted.

For the most part, almost any 12vdc computer fan will work on a reefer back side. Look on a web site like Newegg or Tiger Direct and choose whatever one of thousands of choices (and bearing arrangements) will meet the size and minimum CFM that the existing one puts out. Even adding a second or third with a temperature switch or thermistor will be even better. On our last 5er I made up a panel with three fans and a Home Depot temp switch to replace the non working original. This made a pretty good change in the overall reefer cooling quality in hot weather. Best of all - it was so quiet you had to wonder if it was working (it did)!!!

Norcold OEM fans are junk........replace with a good quality DC computer fan

As for the top area of fridge.

That should be completely closed off/fully insulated/ baffled so air flow goes across condenser fins and out top vent.
Baffle should be fully sealed. Dead air space eliminated.

RV MFGs don't follow RV Fridge MFG installation instructions/requirements and then when fridge doesn't preform its the Fridge Mfgs fault
