The Ca DMV personnel are basically idiots. You can walk in with the simplest registration, everything in order and they still struggle.

Yup. As I commented. Use a knowledgable independent registration service instead of the DMV. Using Barb's I mentioned they recently processed our out of state Phaeton into CA in about 30 minutes. Did the visual inspection, emissions validation and paperwork, collected all fees - everything. We walked out with the new license plates and registration. The new CA title came in the mail from the DMV a couple weeks later.

Even AAA can't register a non CARB compliant vehicle in California. It has to have the sticker, and be visualy certified by AAA worker.

Registration Frustration - Conclusion

Thank you, did my homework and wasn't looking to save money. I am aware that California sales tax is much greater than Arizona's, and prepared to pay the difference upon registration. What I was looking for in the floor plan was only available in AZ (at least the closet to California) after speaking with the dealer he assured me that the vehicle was OK to be registered in California, my mistake was not visually checking myself. At the time I didn't know that the Emissions sticker on the vehicle must specifically say meets California Emissions Standards, not simply Meets US standards. After much research and several calls, turns out that the folks in AZ simply failed to put the correct sticker on the vehicle. The Cummings engine family for my rig are ALL certified for California use. I should be getting the sticker next week. Lesson learned, Check, Double Check and then Check again!!

Thank you all for you help and input.

Thanks Dutch Star Don, Been a member of AAA for 33 years now, they only do simple registration, they do not do Vehicle Inspections which was required by my transaction.

Thank you
