Remote thermometer for refrigerator?
I was reading through a couple of refrigerator threads and it occurred to me one thing missing from most RV refrigerators is a temperature display like my sticks and bricks Samsung has. I am pondering installing one so that I can monitor it while under way and then just switch on the inverter when the temperature rises too much.
Anyone else done this?

I purchased a new remote thermometer and it works great. I don't think I would use the one with the corded sensor as I think it would provide an interior air escape issue. The norcold frig requirements are for an airtight seal. That being said your cord would create an air leak.

Carl,Do you mean remote in that it transmits from inside the fridge to an outside display? That would be the best!

Just go to Wal-Mart and buy a wireless thermometer! We use one all the time in the fridge! You can move the remote from the fridge section to the freezer any time you want.

I use one similar to this one. I can see freezer, refrigerator, outdoor and indoor temperatures.

That's how I do it, but I only have one transmitter. So the transmitter usually it sits in the freezer (since if that's good the fridge probably is too) then if it's cold out and a risk of an overnight freeze the transmitter goes in the wet bay as a freeze warning.

I use an AcuRite with two sensors. One important tip is to use lithium batteries in the sensors, especially the one in the freezer as regular alkalines are effected by the cold. If you get the three sensor model you can use on to monitor temps in your wetbay too.

One tip: Match the transmitters to the receiver display, e.g., freezer on top, reefer on bottom (for our Norcold). Another tip: If you have a Norcold with a blank panel next to the display, you may be able to remove that panel and slide the receiver into the spot between the hinges. On our coach, it fits and stays put by friction.
The temperature display taught me a lot about how the unit cools (or not), and what improvements did. For instance, recovery from "warm" food is slow. This occurs after a food shopping trip. Also, I found that the interior circulation fans made the most difference in keeping the temps down in the reefer, and allowed us to set the frig set point to a lower value (for instance, 3 instead of 6 or 7). All in all, a worthwhile purchase!

I got this one and I really like it. It reaches pretty far. Right now my TT is parked in front of my shop, which is a good distance away from the house, and the display is on the far side of the house away from it and it picks it up just fine.

You can put one on the fridge and one in the freezer, or whatever you want.

With that sensor, you can get your temp / humidity to your smartphone and house. Also would require a Z-Wave "hub" to be online.
