Renting my RV through online sites
I am new to this site and retiring soon to join the ranks of rv’ers. I have seen sites like rvshare.com, campanda.com, and outdoorsy.com for those who wish to make money on their rv when not in use. Needless to say, reps from these sites have told me glowing tales of success in doing this. I would like input from real people on the follies of renting my rv or successes; if they exist.

If you don't like your rig and don't care if it's taken care of then go for it.
Have you seen how people treat rental cars or RV's? Ever watch a newbie set up or tear down, back in to a tight space? Very amusing at times and sometimes expensive.
Plus you have to load and unload each time you rent it out and then want to use it yourself.

Glad to have you here in the forum with us. You're gonna like it here.
There have been many threads written about renting out your own RV. I personally would never rent mine out. I don't even lend it to my children, and they're responsible people. Most RV systems are too complicated for a weekend renter to use and you can imagine the results of them trying. Besides the clean up of the rig, and you know how renters will treat it, there is also the liability issue.
Of course reps from those sites will expound on the advantages of renting, they're in the business. Think this over before you act.
Happy Trails!!!

Renting out a personal RV is not something I would do or recommend. The only way I would do it was if I was in the RV rental business and had a small fleet of them.

My first thought on seeing this subject was, here we go again with the weekly rent out my rv topic. Having said that I would also never rent out my personal coach, though I might toy with the idea of buying an RV or two for the express purpose of rental income, assuming I were to run across great deals on well maintained RV's that just are not right for me for some reason.

Welcome. I too have to add my negative feelings on renting my rig. We did this 20 years ago with our first Class A and it was the worst RV mistake we have ever made. My personal advice....DON"T DO IT.

i have a different take on renting out an RV.
This comes from working with boat and PWC companies.
Those boat and PWC rental companies made 10 times the money on charging for damage to the rented unit than they ever did on the actual rental fees.
Then they low ball repair shops to bubble gum and ductape the unit back together so it could be rented to another crash expert.
In actual dollars they made many times the price of the unit in just the summer 4 months and generally replaced them every year to two years.
But at the end of that time the unit was worth almost nothing.
So If you want to rent an rig. Do not care that it gets destroyed in a year. Have no trouble charging people an exorbitant fee for repairs. Have a repair facility you can make do ultra cheep repairs. You can come out the other side with your original rig paid off and enough to buy another.

Campanda seems unreachable
For those who rent their RV's via CAMPANDA. Be warned:
As of September 2018
support@campanda.com bounces back.
seija.samoylenko@campanda.com bounced back too.
It's been past 5 days since I rented my RV out via their service. I have not seen money deposited in my bank account.
I would suggest you to decline any booking requests until you are confident with Campanda again.

There are so many horror stories posted about damage to rvs that have been rented. It always sounds good to help recover costs, but money received never offsets the damages done to your rig.

Zero chance I would do it. I have a friend whom has a couple of pop-up tent trailers that he rents out, all I hear about is how much damage they have when they get turned in. I was at Talladega superspeedway a couple of years ago as a guest of Ford, we had a couple of Prevost coaches we could stand on the roofs, go inside to cool off etc. I remember thinking how hammered these things were getting from just one race. If people do not own it, most will abuse it.....

There is a great post on here about a fella that rented his out through one of the sites mentioned. The damage he incurred from 'seemingly normal' people was vast. People break things and will lie and lie. Lying is really popular these days.
It is not worth the headache unless you don't care if your RV has the snot beat out of it by people who couldn't care less about you or your RV. Good luck with that.
