Repaired my A/C shroud!

Your method works well for cracks, etc; However I have had shrouds and covers with large chuncks actually missing and was able to rebuild by using West Systems. That is a two part epoxy like product that is used extensivly on boats. Many times the shroud or covers are obsolete yet the item they cover is still servicable, so the price of the West System products is still worthwhile.

I just replaced mine, 99.50 each off the internet. I don't know what kind you have mine are Dometic Duo-Therm Model Penguin. Fit perfect and believe it or not they were made in Canada They shipped them both together shipping 32 dollars. . Jim

I don't mean to pee on the parade but those covers crack because they are old and starting to crystallize from the weather.
The previous owner of my coach had done a repair like that on both of my covers and I got caught in a heavy wind storm and it blew off and destroyed the tubing and fins on the unit and lost all the coolant. If he would have replaced the cover I wouldn't be spending a $1000 to replace the unit. I bought 2 new covers and still need to replace the front a/c.

YUP--if you dont reenforce the stress points [eg pipe strapping], it will probably crack next to the the last crack repair you made. Agree, $100 ea seems like a lot for molded plastic cover--reenforceing the stress points will significantly prolong the useful life of older covers.

Another thing I did was to cut 4 pieces of aluminum flat bar that was 1/8" thick x 1" wide into four pieces and used JB Weld to glue the pieces behind each of the 4 mounting holes. That way, there is no stress on the plastic, just on the aluminum. Each of the cracks I had started at the screw holes and ran up and out. The plastic doesn't appear to be brittle. I think this will solve my problem!
