Replacing Microwave Convection Oven
We just bought a Voltage 3900 a couple weeks ago. It has a Dometic microwave convection oven, but the convection part is broken and the whole unit needs to be replaced. The problem is Dometic no longer makes an over the range model, just a counter top model, which we definitely have no room for. It looks like we need to get a different brand, but I'm worried about getting one that will mount and vent properly. Has anyone else replaced a Dometic with a different brand? Were there certain brands that worked or didn't work?

Hello, did you try the search box above right, with the same title? I remember a few posts where the discussion included name brands. Good luck!(some below also)

Yes, I've read through a bunch. A lot of people seem to like the Sharp brand, but I'm worried about being able to mount it and how it will vent when everything is already set up for a Dometic. I would hate to buy something and not be able to use it because it has a different installation process.

Wouldn't worry too much with the venting. Most, if not all conv/mirco ovens come with templates for mounting the aft wall mount and the overhead mount bolts...the Sharp certainly does. Also, the template shows the option of outside venting or recirculating the exhaust. I opted for NOT venting because of the close proximity of our kitchen exhaust fan. If you have to have the outside exhaust, just take those templates out of the box(Sharp)and see if your outside vent matches...bet it does, I suspect it's a pretty standard thing. If it doesn't match, take it back or go with recirculation. I bought our Sharp online from Home Depot.
BTW, if you go with the Sharp, do not tear up the box it comes in...after cutting, the box makes a great platform that makes the install much easier and offers some protection for the stove top as well. Good luck...

The person who installed the microwave in my new to me rv did not vent the replacement microwave and if you warmed up one item no problem but my DW loves her sweet potatoes and well it over heated after 4 minutes. So we put a Dometic back in from CW had to remove 1/16 from the vent panel and works very well. My unit was built in the cabinets and it just recycled the heated air and worn out the magnetron in the unit.

Those units look very cool .... with your overhead cabs your mounting should be a breeze, and most ovens can vent in a couple of different ways ...
Once your old one is out and you see how the current unit is set up, you should be able to install the same .... now just a matter of name brand .... and features you want ...
Lots of good ones out there ... but one should certainly check out the reviews ...
Got lots of great insight from folks here and on the net prior to us getting our new unit .....
If you planning on using the convection a lot ... bigger is better .... (internal size) .. your limits will be your external dims ... tho most are pretty standard.
Good luck with your search ....
