Reserve on-line or phone with Recreation.gov
We've not been successful in getting a reservation at a popular Forest Service campground in the Idaho panhandle using Recreation.gov on-line. The site that we attempt to reserve shows as available and myself and a couple of family members are all set up on different computers with the "BOOK THESE DATES" button ready to click at 10AM EST, the earliest that you can make a reservation. We've even gone so far as to time our clicks using the USNO clock running in an adjacent window and staggering when each of hits the button, I.E., I may hit it two seconds prior to the 10AM time in an attempt to overcome network lag, my daughter will hit 1 second after me and then my wife will come in right at the 10AM time. I will generally receive the message that basically says that I need to try later while my wife and daughter will receive the message that the inventory is no longer available and shows as booked when the page is refreshed. It's been a while, but I think that the last time that I tried calling in the reservation that the lines didn't open until 10AM EST which would lead me to believe that it would be advantageous to try to reserve on-line.
Can anyone shed some light on our inability to reserve a site after attempts for several sites as they open up in following days? Are there bots out there, is Recreation.gov able to preset a lock on sites , or are we truly competing fairly for whats available?
Thoughts and helpful hints would be much appreciated!
