Rio Grande Village or Maverick RV-Lajitis, TX
Anyone have any info on staying in your RV for the Big Bend Area of TX? I found 2 parks, one Rio Grande Village and another Maverick RV Park at Lajitis, TX.
We haven't been to Big Bend, but were thinking of going in the Spring.
We have a 35 footer 5th wheel and any tips appreciated.
Thx so very much

We always found that it's best to stay IN a national park that you'll be visiting for the best experience. Rio Grande Village would be our choice. We've been there quite a few times - the dry camping campground. There's also a full hookup area in the same immediate area but we liked the atmosphere of the dry camping area better - more room.

We stayed at Maverick in lajitas last year and enjoyed our stay. Very close to the state park and not too far from the National Park. Only drove by the other RV parks so no real experience, however Maverick seemed to be the best choice. Other parks seemed looked to be just dirt parking lots. Maverick at least had some grass between sites.

If you're prepared to dry camp, Rio Grande Village Campground is great and has some sites where you are allowed to use your generator. A small (25-site) concession-run RV park is adjacent with hookups. It's usually full but call 877-386-4383 for info or to reserve.

We enjoyed the Rio Grande Village Campground last February. Big Bend is an awesome park!

Just last week, I stayed a full week at Stillwell's RV park with 30 amp for $132. It is 8 miles north of the north park entrance station.

I would read RV Park Review website. They have a lot of info. Some will give you the status of phone service in various parks. OTA TV will not be available. Some of the parks have cable TV. Should not be a problem if you have Satellite System. Cell service can be very spotty at different parks. Remember, this is a desert area, so don't expect much in the way of grass. It can be very dusty at times. But, with all that said, it is a beautiful place to visit. It is very large park, with lots of hiking trails and dirt roads. Enjoy your trip.

We prefer Maverick. Having Full Hookups and being paved is a plus. I don’t know of any other parks in the area that offer both. We also like the availability of the resort across the street. Great food (fantastic burgers), bar, exercise room and golf. Terlingua about 20 minutes away has more food options like La Kiva and the Starlight, and groceries. BB State Park is about a mile from Maverick and offers good mountain biking and hiking as does the resort. I am able to get Sprint cell from the park and they offer decent wifi. We use satellite and I am not sure if they offer cable.
