Roof Disaster - Insurance/repair advice wanted
We were travelling east from San Diego en route to Tombstone, our first trip outside California with our 93 Winnebago Vectra diesel pusher. We encountered high winds in the mountains, slowed to 40 mph or so and were being passed by all manner of semi's, rv, and cars. Suddenly our large awning blew up and out, crashing to the road with the lower arms still attached to the coach. We stopped by the side of the road and removed the pieces of the awning, and brackets, storing them inside of the coach. We restarted driving to get to an exit and within 1/4 mile, the entire roof blew off the coach and over the side of the road into a canyon! All that is left on top is the foam insulation. We limped off the highway at 5 mph and have secured temporary storage in a RV park.
If anyone on this list has experience with this type of repair and/or insurance interaction, your advice is requested. Although this is a 20 yr old coach, it is in great condition (except for the roof) and I hope the insurance will not want to total the vehicle.

Bad deal for you. Hard to see what other damage may be on the coach. Would surprise me if they don't total it. The roof has many features and systems on it. A lot to be rebuilt. Not easy or cheap to rebuild.

Easy; add decking. I'd add 1/4" luan to studs if you can. Then just glue on the roof.

It would be almost like starting a new coach build. I doubt any repair facility would want to take it on. Good luck with insurance.

Have you talked to Winnibago customer service about this? You might be surprised! At least it's worth a try.

Really? How many have you done? Where would you even find a replacement top for a 20 YO MH?

My 01 Winn had a very thin fiberglass roof. It was tucked into a J track and actually came loose on the forward drivers side. The Factory tucked it back in somehow . I could see the whole thing coming off as it did here. It may be an easier fix than some think. As suggested by me above and others , give Winn. a call.

I'm not saying it can't be done, just that finding an exact replacement would be difficult.

Maybe your the man for the job. Is the ACs on the roof or basement on this rig? Probably damage to the ceiling inside. You must have an easy button.

Three in the last 3-4 months. You just either get new roof material. TPO, EPDM comes in huge rolls. You can get filon in long lengths too if you want it back that way. You don't get "factory replacements." You make them.
