Rubber roof putty tape

Is there a difference between butyl tape and putty tape? 🤔🤔

Eternabond goes on TOP. This is for the seams for a new rubber roof where the hold down bars go.

The local campground repair shop only carries/uses butyl tape. The owner says he has more than enough work and does not appreciate repeat for the same repair, hence his choice of butyl.

Butyl tape is a type of putty tape, but not all putty is butyl.

That said, the putty tape sold in mobile home stores, gutter and flashing, shops, and home centers for metal roof or window installation is butyl and works fine on RV seams. If its made for metal-to-metal or metal to fiberglass joints, it will be butyl or something similar enough to be usable.
